Harold McDonald

of England, AR

January 28, 1932 - July 3, 2020

Harold McDonald, 88, received his heavenly reward on July 3, 2020. Harold grew up in Seaton, AR, but lived his entire adult life in England, AR.

He never met a stranger and was always willing to introduce himself by telling a story or a good joke. He loved to drink coffee with his friends at the ''coffee shop'' every morning. Harold was a ''Jack of all Trades''. During his lifetime he had many jobs, some of which included being a farmer, insurance agent, bookkeeper, tax preparer, and well driller. He could fix anything and was always willing to drop what he was doing to help others with their problems. He definitely modeled his favorite Bible verse Ephesians 4:32 which says ''Be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.''

Harold was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of England where he served as Deacon, and member of the kitchen committee spending countless hours helping cook church meals such as the annual Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Greers Ferry Lake was one of his favorite places to go with his family where he would joke that he was the Captain of his Boat, and his wife gave him permission to say so! He had a huge collection of caps, arrowheads, and old marbles on display in his office that he would gladly show you when you came to visit. He loved to go fishing and to deer camp with his granddaughters, McKenzie and Shelby, and cheer at England sporting events especially when they were participating. If you looked closely when you passed him on the road, you might see him playing his harmonica or singing along to Gaither gospel music.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carole Anne McKenzie McDonald; his parents Ben and Virgie McDonald; his brothers General, Bill and Lyndell McDonald; sisters Thelma Williams, Dorothy Leonard, and Jean Rakestraw.

Survivors include two daughters Milicent McDonald and Rosalind Cheek; son-in-law Scott Cheek; two granddaughters who were the apple of his eye, McKenzie and Shelby Cheek; one sister, Dee Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Public viewing will be throughout the day on Monday, July 6, 2020 at Roller Funeral Home in England. The family will be present for formal visitation from 6:00 8:00pm that evening.
The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 10:00 am July 7, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of England. Burial will follow at Mulberry Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of England, AR.

All guests over the age of 10 must wear a face covering to attend, and social distancing guidelines will be observed.

Funeral arrangements are by Roller England Funeral Home 501-842-3939.

Millicent, Rosalind, McKenzie, Shelby and Dee we are so sorry to learn of Harold's death. We had become such good friends at the basketball games between England & Carlisle. He & James watched the games so faithfully while Carole Anne and I recalled the great times at ASTC (now UCA). When we moved back to AR after teaching in MO she & I got reaquainted.
Each of you will be in our thoughts as you begin to adjust to living without Harold in your daily lives. He & Carole Anne were very special friends to us.

Dear McDonald girls,
You are both still girls in my mind.
How fortunate you all are to have had the great love and support of two wonderful parents. I always enjoyed so much the big smile and the friendship of Carole Ann. She was a true woman of substance . Harold always friendly and acted as though he was happy to see you. He was a real family man for sure.
You are blessed to have a huge volume of great memories of all those wonderful years together. I have great memories of recitals and Christmas concerts with the McDonalds.
Love to you all and God bless.

I will always remember Mr. Harold’s smile and his warm conversations. He always made a point to come say hi to us whenever he saw us, usually at church. He was a great man and we are blessed to have known him. All our love and prayers.
