Dorothy Dawson Hare

of Leslie, AR

August 18, 1924 - June 20, 2020

Dorothy Dawson Hare, age 95 of Leslie, Arkansas passed from this life on Saturday, June 20, 2020. She was born the youngest of 10 in Van Buren, Missouri to John Richmond and Dora Chilton Dawson on August 18, 1924.

Throughout her travels in life from Missouri to Illinois, Texas and finally Arkansas, she followed her Methodist and Democratic upbringing with every effort. Dorothy had been a journalist in her youth and continued her trade into her last years. Quick to follow the proverb that the pen is mightier than the sword, she always had a letter to the editor in process or ready to be mailed. She has also been active for several charities in her life and served on several Methodist churches' committees. Because of her love of books and the written word, she served many years on the library board in Bonne Terre, Mo. In Texas, she used her sewing skills to work with the Amigo Quilters to create quilts for the local women's shelters. After moving to Arkansas, she worked with Operation Kindness in Leslie, Arkansas to provide low cost spay and neuter clinics for local residents. Although she wasn't able to attend the last years, she has been a member of the Eastern Star since she turned 18. Dorothy kept in correspondence with her last chapter, Harlingen Chapter No. 641.

She is survived by her daughter, Dana Jaeger and husband, Jonathan of Leslie, AR; grandsons, Alex, Nicholas, Christopher and Michael Jaeger; stepdaughter, Delia Hare Keyma; and many nieces, nephews, step-children, step-grandchildren, other family, and many friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dora Dawson; her husbands, Eugene H. Johnson and Howard C. Hare; and her siblings, Elza C. Dawson, James A. Dawson, George Z. Dawson, Gladys Dawson, Tolman Timon Dawson, John Wilson Dawson, June Lee Dawson Tripp, Bailey Dawson and Thomas Lynn Dawson.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 25th, 2020 at Roller-Coffman Funeral Home in Marshall, Arkansas with Rev. Dr. L. Glenn Pettus officiating. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Burial will take place at the Masonic & Van Buren Cemetery in Van Buren, MO on Friday, June 26th at 2:00PM.

She was her own person and was always ready to share herself to help at church.
