Terry Logan

of West Memphis, AR

March 2, 1945 - June 8, 2020

Terry Oliver Logan, 75, of West Memphis, AR passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 8th, 2020. He was born March 2, 1945, in Columbus, MS, to Oliver Wheeler Logan and Mary Leigh Loftis Logan.

A veteran of the U.S Navy, Terry served with distinction during the Cold War and Vietnam aboard the USS Turner. After his military career, he resided in Columbus, MS where he began his family with Elizabeth ''Stu'' Logan.

His work in the insurance industry brought them to West Memphis, AR in 1976. Terry's love for building many GTOs led him to open Logan's Service Center in 1989 where he performed auto body and car restoration. His love for music inspired him to form the ''Terry Logan Band''. He entertained many with his guitar playing.

For all that knew him, they will remember his perfect hair, his colorful use of words, and his legendary story telling.

Terry will be missed by all who were blessed to have him in their lives.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oliver Wheeler and Mary Leigh Loftis Logan.

Survivors include his beloved and dedicated wife, Linda Logan; daughter, Elizabeth ''Henri'' Day, and her husband James of North Carolina; son Dickson Logan, and his wife Julie Traylor-Logan of West Memphis; grandchildren Tara Day, James Day, Jordan Logan, and Grayson Logan; sister, Carol Ann Wheat, and her husband Elbert of Columbus; and two great grandchildren.

With all our respect, Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will be complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and limiting indoor funeral and visitation attendance to 50 people at a time. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering.

Terry started a legacy of Naval Service that Dickson honorably adopted. When our families merged, Terry was "thrilled" to discover that his son married into a "Air Force" family.
You can imagine the adjectives that came out of his mouth.
Naturally, the friendly banter never stopped and continues today between Dickson and I.
I have profound respect for Terry and Dickie's service to our country. The sacrifices they made (6 month lone cruises) cannot be overstated. Let's take a quick look at the ships they served on; Terry aboard the destroyer USS Turner (DDR-483) and Dickie on the aircraft carrier USS America (CV-66).
The America displaced 85,000 tons fully loaded, carried a crew of 5,000, was 1000' long with a beam of 250'. With the deck 100' above the water it could handled just about any waves that Poseidon could throw at her.
Every carrier is protected by numerous ships. The most nimble of them are the destroyers (Tin Cans) like the USS Turner. The Turner displaced 3,400 tons, was crewed by 350, was 400' long and 40' wide. With its deck a mere 20' above the water, the Turner spend more time breaking through heavy seas than cresting over the waves. Destroyer sailors have a saying, "One over and Two under" to describe how their ship tackles heavy seas!
I salute their service in the greatest Navy ever to sail the seas.
Terry, fair winds and calm seas.....

.......and on the eighth day he created the "Tin Can Sailor"!

Linda, Dickson, Henri and families........we are so happy that with Julie and Dickson's marriage we increased our family and love each of you. We all will have the best memories of our family times including birthday celebrations, many Christmases and that infamous Terry Logan band. Nothing was better than dancing the night away with them. I would look at Terry playing with a smile on his face and the nod of his head which said "Im glad you are having such a good time".
We will remember all the laughter and fun that both Terry and Linda shared with us! We will miss him terribly, but at the same time know that he is at peace, and pray that each of you will be as well.
Terry this is for you........it's Brandi. I will be talking to you a lot and by the way you will have your turn at hanging the moon. That's what happens with the family and friends that are already in Heaven. You have been at my birthday parties and seen me send balloons to my brother and others. I will let you know when yours are coming!
You were always so sweet to me and I loved you and Linda. I will do some puzzles with Linda and make her laugh for you. By the way, my big, fat, black cat Jynx is there too. Just look for him. He always loved your lap. Goodbye for now.......we will talk soon. Love Brandi

We are so very sorry for the loss of your loved one. The memories will never forsake you and the love in your heart will carry you through the darkest of times.
We had the opportunity of meeting Terry when we were visiting our niece, Julie Traylor-Logan and her husband Dickson, Terry’s son. Terry was quite a guy! He made us feel welcome and joked with us immediately. Terry and my husband hit it off immediately because they had so much in common with the auto body shop and car restoration. We know he will be sadly missed by all!
