I served in the Navy.

Gary Robert ReddigI am a Veteran.

of Benton, AR

December 8, 1949 - May 30, 2020

Gary Robert Reddig was born in Benton, Arkansas, on December 8, 1949, the only child of Bridewell Scroggins ''Bud'' Reddig and Freda Jewel Chastain Reddig. He laid down his broken body and was received into the presence of Jesus on May 30, 2020.
Gary's Saline County roots run deep. His maternal grandfather, H.M. Chastain, was responsible for the development of more than 100 acres of residential property in Old Town Benton that became known as Chastain Addition.
At the time of his death, Gary lived in the house that his parents built in the Chastain Addition in around 1957. At 101, Gary's last living maternal aunt, his mother's sister Flora Mae Brazil, still resides in Benton.

Gary's paternal grandfather, W.G. Reddig, was a prominent businessman and developer in Conway County. At 91 years of age, Gary's last known living paternal aunt, his father's sister Rose Kurtz, still resides in Plumerville where W.G. Reddig founded and ran Reddig Gin Company.
Gary attended school in Saline County but didn't distinguish himself as a student. He wanted to see the world, so he joined the U.S. Navy and traveled. After concluding his military service, Gary spent many years at Falcon Jet where he eventually retired.

Roguishly handsome, Gary took great pride in his luxurious locks of silky brown hair, which he wore quite long for many years. He loved cars, especially Porsches. He loved the blues and was a big fan of Bonnie Raitt. He loved the Arkansas Razorbacks. He loved his mom and dad.
Gary spent his earlier years finding fun wherever he could, but later in life he came back to the faith of his parents and he practiced a quiet but fervent faith in God and love for Jesus. He was a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church.

If he was nothing else, he was generous, even to a fault. He helped many family members and friends financially through the years and gave generously to numerous causes and charities. But Gary never asked for attention or praise, preferring his quiet, unassuming life.

The last few years of Gary's life were hard as he face serious health issues, but he soldiered through all of the health challenges with his characteristic tenacity and toughness. He was certainly one of the toughest men that walked God's green earth, but he still kept a tender heart.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Freda Reddig. He is survived by two aunts, several cousins, and a couple of bonus children, Michael Quick and Stephanie Quick.
He also leaves a warm group of close friends who were like family to him, including life-long friend, Danna Foshee, aka ''Kid'', who cared for Gary like a brother, and long-time friend, Bill Carr, who stepped up and stepped in to serve Gary during his most recent treatment for cancer.

Funeral Service will be held at Roller Alcoa in Benton Arkansas Tuesday June 2, 2020, 10:00 AM, Visitation at 9:00 AM.

I sure hated to see you go so suddenly, but I know you would have been pleased with the beautiful service we had for you today. Your pastor, Brian Moore, preached a strong evangelistic sermon. We played some of your favorite music. And your sweet Stephanie shared touching words. We put you next to your Mom. I'm sure y'all have already been catching up. Rest well, Gary. You're definitely going to be missed.

Rudy was a friend that was at my side from the time we were children. We grew up together and joined the Navy on the buddy plan. The Navy sent us in different directions after boot camp but we stayed in touch. He will be missed by me and all those that knew him. RIP my friend!
