Gene Lowrey, of Dardanelle, Arkansas passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 in Russellville.
He was a Korean War-era veteran serving in the United States Air Force as an Atomic Weapons Mechanic. After attending Arkansas Tech University where he played baseball, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arkansas. Early in his career he worked as a deputy County Extension agent in Clay and Mississippi counties. After 25 years of service as the Yell County Extension Agent he retired to cattle farming. He volunteered his time and knowledge to multiple organizations and also sat on the board of the Yell County Farm Bureau Association and Arkansas Cattleman's Association. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dardanelle and always enjoyed hunting, bass fishing (especially with his brother) and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents Byron and Irene (Douglas) Lowrey.
He is survived by his three daughters, Debora Hanson and husband Jeff Shelby of New Braunfels, Texas, Kim Lowrey of Russellville, Arkansas and Heather Hibbs and husband Bryan of Mahomet, Illinois; one brother, Dr. Douglas H. Lowrey of Russellville, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Angela Payne, Matthew Hanson, Sam Hibbs and Ella Hibbs and one great granddaughter, Olive Hanson; a niece and 4 nephews.
There will be a private service with a memorial service planned at a later date. Funeral services are under the direction of Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

I knew Mr. Lowrey when I worked at Wildflower. He was very kind to all of us and was everybody's favorite. I'm going to miss him.

I always appreciated Gene throughout my time with the extension service in Yell County. He always had a smile and laughter that radiated to all the lives he touched. Rest In Peace - your journey on earth is done. God's got you in his arms.

Heaven got a wonderful man. He always made me smile y laugh.
Gene will be missed deeply.
