Ronald Edward JonesI am a Veteran.

February 28, 1933 - March 25, 2020

Ronald E. Jones, 87, of Melbourne passed away on Wednesday, March 25, 2020.

He was born February 28, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan to Virgil H. Jones Sr. and Cora A. Jones, formerly of Georgia.

Ron was an active member of Midway Baptist Church, serving as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for a number of years. He enjoyed working with Arkansas Baptist Disaster Work and all RBBA Ministries. Ron was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1951- 1954, after his discharge from the Army he came back to the Redford area to live and met Naomi Jones, later they were married in November of 1954 and Doug was born in 1959. During this time, he was employed at various Chevrolet dealerships as a Parts Manager and sometimes Service Manager.

After moving to Pinckney, Michigan we were surrounded by state land and lots of horseback riding trails, so we had to have horses, which we all enjoyed, especially Doug when Ron would call from work and ask him to saddle up the horses because he was leaving work early, he also enjoyed coon hunting with his brother-in-law, Darrell and friend, Bill. Yes, they hunted at night and got turned around some and Doug was with them part of this time, he knew all the trails so he could get them home. Pinckney was a great place for us to live and have family and friends with us often.

After moving to the hills of Arkansas, we built our home, with help from our church family, during some of this time Doug was with us and he was a great help. Ron worked in some of the auto dealerships around Batesville, then he went to work in the auto dept at Wal-Mart, then after visiting Rogers Darland, he decided he wanted to raise chickens, which he did for 16 years and it was a great experience!

Ron's mother came to Arkansas to live with us for about four years and then went back to Michigan and lived there until she was 100 years old. We have made numerous trips back to Michigan to visit and have been privileged to travel to places neither of us ever dreamed of seeing such as Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Spain, North Africa, Jamaica, Mexico, Quebec and all over Canada and almost all of the United States.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Leah Naomi (Blount) Jones of the home; son, Douglas (Rhenda) Jones of Burlington, Kansas; brother, Raymond L. (Coleen) Jones of Canton, Michigan; two grandchildren, Scott Jones and Smantha Jones; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Virgil H. Jones Jr.; three sisters, Pauline Jones, Loraine Winter and Barbara Jones.

The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
