Rachel Rowena (Shirley) Satterfield passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at the age of 86. Rowena was born on July 16, 1933 in Mount Pleasant, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Homer Shirley and Ollie Conyers Shirley.

She was a member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church where she served as assistant pianist and Sunday School secretary. She was a homemaker, a retired school bus driver and was a charter member of the Izard County EMS board where she served for 24 years before retiring. She was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and cross stitch and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her four sons, James Brown on St. James, Keith Brown (Karin) of Zion, Wesley Brown of Zion and Robert Satterfield of the home; two daughters, Kaye Plumlee (Ray) of Franklin and Rebecca Warner of Lakeview; eleven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John ''Skip'' Brown; her second husband, William ''Bill'' Satterfield; and two brothers, Homer Shirley Jr. and Doyle Shirley.

A private graveside service will be held for the family.

Finding out grandma passed away the way I did hurt... I love my grandma so very much and was so blessed to be able to have conversations with her threw out the years... I pray your proud of me granny... I'm finally graduating college... Oh my this hurts... I love you so much and I am so sorry for not coming and seeing you sooner... Rowena was a special soul. Friend, neighbor, bus driver.... she never waivered in standing up for what was right and just. She cared about all of us kids and made sure we were always safe and well behaved on the bus. We all loved her very, very much!
