Alta D Shaddox

Alta D. Brogdon Shaddox, 94, of North Little Rock, AR, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 15, 2019.

Alta was born February 3, 1925, in Fitzhugh, Arkansas, with her parents, C.A. and Eulah Brogdon, and four older brothers, Ruby, Sonny, J.A., and Al Brogdon. The Brogdon's moved to McCrory, Arkansas some years later.

She attended Ouachita Baptist University where she met her husband T.N. Shaddox. Alta graduated with her bachelor's degree from University of Nebraska and later, a master's from the University of Central Arkansas. Alta and her family lived in Guam, Japan, England, and several states in the U.S.A. as T.N. served as a Chaplain in the United States Air Force.

In 1970, the Shaddox's moved to NLR and joined Park Hill Baptist Church. Alta worked as the librarian at Old Main (now North Little Rock High School) and North Heights Elementary until her retirement in 1992.

She sang in the church choir, gardened, volunteered at Baptist Health Medical Center, played ukulele, and continued to travel extensively.

Alta is preceded in death by her parents and brothers; husband, T.N. Shaddox; daughter, Kathryn Ann Kelley; and great grandchildren, Kathryn Lynn and Micah Kelley.

She is lovingly remembered by daughters, Nola (Ken) Smith of North Little Rock, Tommie (Stephen) Smith of North Little Rock, son-in-law Ben Kelley of Alabama; grandchildren, Tonya Smith, Chandra (Gerry) Gresham, Shad (Shannon) Smith, Katrina Pennington, B.T. Kelley, Krista Smith; and great-grandchildren, Aly Smith, J.T. (Emily) Espejo, Timothy Espejo, Blake Gresham, Ethan Gresham, Anastasia Smith, James Smith, Nate Pennington, Emma Pennington, Benjamin Pennington, and Sarah Kate Pennington, and Thomas Henry Kelley.

Burial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2019, at Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison, Arkansas.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019, at Park Hill Baptist Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

We just found out that Alta had passed. We worked with her at North Heights for many years. We are truly sorry for your loss. Prayers for your family’s comfort. She was a fine lady and we will remember her kindness. RIP my former co-worker.🙏✌️

I have the fondest memories of Alta. She had the greatest personality, and I always enjoyed talking to her. I am so sorry to learn of her death. Prayers for her family.
