Flora (Vest) Breckenridge

January 8, 1920 - March 24, 2019

Flora (Vest) Breckenridge, 99, a resident of Paris, formerly of Lake Village, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Greenhurst Nursing Center in Charleston.

She was born January 8, 1920, in Atkins, Arkansas to the late Robert Lee and Ruthie Alice (Lynch) Vest. During the 1940's Flora worked as a public school teacher. She taught at various school districts including Springdale, Atkins and Star City. Flora also spent two summers working in war plants in Jacksonville, Arkansas and Baltimore, Maryland during World War II. She enjoyed traveling out west with her husband and she had the opportunity to visit the Holy Land with her sister, Leona. She was a member of Lake Village Baptist Church in Lake Village where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Berry Breckenridge; a daughter, Cathy Jennings, five brothers, Elmer, Forest, Raymond, Rayburn and R.L. Vest, Jr. and three sisters, Irma Hatcher, Pearl Austin and Leona Keener.

Survivors include her two sons, Don Breckenridge of Sherwood and Glen Breckenridge and wife, Wanda of Ozark; a son-in-law, Jack Jennings of Mountain Home; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the Roller Funeral Home in Paris.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 28, 2019, at the Blasingame Cemetery near El Paso, Arkansas. Burial will follow under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Lake Village Baptist Church, 301 N. Lakeshore Dr., Lake Village, Arkansas 71653.

I so enjoyed knowing Mrs. Flora and Mr. Tom. They both were such sweet Christian people. She will certainly be missed but Heaven surely gained an angel. My prayers are with you all.

What she taught so many of us by example cannot be overstated. Her and Mr. Tom’s friendship to my parents was invaluable. I know times were different then but their ability to keep our compass pointed in the right direction is something my sisters and I will always be grateful for!! I know there was a joyous reunion above.

Heaven surely gained an angel, Mrs. Flora was such a precious Christian lady... I think of them often and how wonderful they were to help me with the youth at LVBC... She had the sweetest smile and so much love for everyone ! She definitely was someone I looked up to and showed me Gods love!! Now she is with Mr. Tom and they both are smiling!!!
