Richard Howard Mahan, 95, 0f Greenbrier formerly of Morrilton passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at Conway Regional Health System surrounded by his family. He was born Monday, February 5, 1923 in Martinville, Arkansas to the late Taylor and Hattie French Mahan.
Richard retired from Petit Jean Vocational Technical School of Morrilton as a diesel mechanic instructor. He served his country in WWII stationed in Europe where he received a bronze star for his service. He was a member of the Downtown Church of Christ in Morrilton.
He is survived by five sons, Richard Mahan of Damascus, Eddie Mahan of Atkins, David (Brenda) Mahan, Tim (Brenda) Mahan, and Jim Mahan all of Greenbrier; one daughter Ashley Mahan of Little Rock; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Neta Privett, Helen Black and Tress Smith; three brothers, Jim Mahan, Jerry Mahan, Bill Mahan and one grandson Jeremy Mahan.
Richard Mahan, Technician fourth grade, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for ''meritorious service in connection with military operations against an enemy in Germany. The citation read: ''Sgt. Mahan, through his untiring efforts, expert mechanical ability, initiative, devotion to duty, and sincere appreciation of the importance of his assignment, supervised and maintained the vehicles and equipment of the 608th Engineer Light Equipment Company during a period of highly intensive action, thus contributing immeasurably to the efficiency of the unit in their assigned mission.'' He was inducted in February 1943, while employed at Thompson & Fader Co., and was overseas twenty months, during which he has earned five battle stars.
Funeral service will be 1:00pm Monday, December 31, 2018 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Greenbrier. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. To the Mahan family, please accept my belated condolence. For Richard to live to the young age of 95, is truly a blessing according to Psalm ninety verse ten. Imagine, though, Richard living "forever" right here on earth. That is what God promises at Isaiah chapter twenty-six verse nineteen and we know God does not lie according to Numbers chapter twenty-three verse nineteen.
