Betty Ruth Johnson Laman

of Cave City, AR

April 27, 1929 - August 30, 2018

Betty Ruth Johnson Laman, 89, of Cave City, AR, died Thursday, August 30, 2018 in her home in Cave City. Born in Cave City, AR, she was the daughter of Edward ''Ed'' Johnson and Mattie Cole Johnson.

Betty was a graduate of Cave City High School. She was a homemaker, but more importantly she was a loving and selfless woman who devoted her life to serving her family. Many of her children's friends have commented that Betty always welcomed them into her home. This is the same today. Betty's home is the center of her family and friends where everyone comes together and always feels welcome.

For years, Betty bravely took her grandsons on trips, which included a yearly trip to Branson. This special time helped build strong relationships with her grandsons, something she felt was vital. These grandsons gave her 6 beautiful great grandchildren, her most prized possessions. Betty looked forward to family gatherings and weekly visits from everyone so she could see the blessings that are her great grandkids.

Besides her love for her family, Betty had a great devotion to her friends. She felt a personal responsibility to take care of those who were dear to her. Even though she couldn't get out of her home in the later years, she would call and check on her friends and offer them words of encouragement and love.
She was a lifelong member of the Cave City First United Methodist Church where she faithfully attended until her health prevented. But even then, she never lost interest in her church family whom she loved so dearly.

Betty is a genuine friend and Matriarch. She will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include one son, Chris Laman, of Cave City; two daughters, Terrie Roark and her husband, Dwain of Cave City and Tammy Baker and her husband, Mike of North Little Rock, AR; 5 grandsons: OJ Laman and his wife Lori of Cave City, Dwain Roark Jr. and his wife Sarah of South Side, AR, Blain Roark and his wife Lacey of Sherwood, AR, Dustin Baker and his wife Melissa of Sherwood, AR, and Cory Baker of New York City, NY; 6 great grandchildren: Carter Laman, Heidi Lermitte, Emma Baker, Jack Roark, Hawkins Roark and Elsie Roark; a sister, Eddie Lee Mills of Cicero, IN, and a brother, Paul Wesley Johnson of Cave City.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Sandra J. Laman, her parents, a sister Lula Glenn, a brother Charles ''Neal'' Johnson and her husband of 67 years Owen ''Jack'' Laman.

The funeral will be at 2 pm Sunday, September 2nd at the First United Methodist Church of Cave City, with Brother John Beller and Pastor John Moore officiating. Burial is at Cave City Cemetery under of the direction of Roller-Crouch/McGee Funeral Home of Cave City.

Pallbearers will be: OJ Laman, Dwain Roark Jr., Blain Roark, Dustin Baker, Cory Baker and Carter Laman

I was a grade school and high school friend of Ruth Laman. My father was a police in Lima Ohio at that time. I now live in Las Vegas Nevada. I was searching for Ruth, just to ask her some questions regarding information about some of us that graduated from Centeral High school a long time ago. Is there anyone there that can call me or e-mail me and bring me up to date on a few things.
So far I am doing good, live in Las Vegas, still do some nursing for private duty etc. Anyhow if anyone is still around that I would know, here is my phone number 702-645-0217

Chris/Terrie: We were so sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. We just found out today. She was a precious and sweet lady and I admired her so much! She was always so kind to us at church and made a point to stop and say "hello" every time we met! Our prayers are with you and your family during this time!

I wanted you, Tammy and Chris to know that I am thinking of you at this difficult time. I know the mixed emotions you are feeling. We always want our parents to be around. Especially those of us that were fortunate enough to have wonderful and loving ones. She was truly an extraordinary person. She was lovely inside and out. The short time I was in the family, she always made me feel loved. I was blessed to know her.
