Shirley Ann Skaggs

of England, AR

June 29, 1944 - September 6, 2014

On Saturday, September 6, 2014, Heaven gained the most beautiful angel, Shirley Ann Rhoades Skaggs.

She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband of 55 years, Jack Junior Skaggs; her parents, Earl and Pearl Rhoades, and three sisters (Norma Jean, Linda Mae and Veda Jo).

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she loved her family and cared for them like no other.
In the early years, Shirley worked at Filmaid where she sewed clothing. She spent many years at Clearlake Footwear sewing shoes. After the closing of the shoe factory, at the age of 52, Shirley received her GED. This was one of her proudest accomplishments. She was then led to England Elementary School where she spent the next 10 years. She started out as a substitute teacher and became a paraprofessional in the Special Education Department. The kids won her heart and helping them became her passion.

Shirley was a member of England Pentecostal Church of God and she believed in miracles.

On December 21, 2009, she was diagnosed with small cell carcinoma in the lung. After multiple rounds of chemo and 23 radiation treatments the cancer was gone…She received a miracle. She was cancer free until May 2014, when the cancer had returned. Shirley began the fight again because she believed in miracles. God had other plans and today she is with Jack, rejoicing at the feet of Jesus.

Shirley is survived by: four children; Jackie (Barbara) Skaggs, Liz James, Ron (Linda) Skaggs and Sharon (Steve) Busick, all of England; seven grandchildren; Dusten Sowell, Beth (Phillip) Chappell of England, Chris (Keisha) Skaggs of Scott, Angie (Jason) Skaggs of Austin, Candace (Jess) James, A.J. (Beth) Skaggs and Tyler Busick of England; seventeen great-grandchildren; three brothers (Jimmy, Ray and James), three sisters (Glenda, Dean and Donna) and a host of friends and extended family whom she loved dearly.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 10, 2014 from 6:00 8:00 P.M. at Roller England Funeral Home Chapel (501-842-3939). Funeral services will be Thursday, September 11, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Roller England Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mulberry Cemetery.

The family has requested memorials to be made to; UAMS Cancer Institute 4301 W. Markham Little Rock, Arkansas 72205.

Sharon & Family,
We are covering you all in our prayers during this difficult time. Your mother was such a wonderful hard working woman. Sharon, I can still remember you and I going out to the shoe factory (after we had checked out of school) to let our moms know where we were; and when we were at your house and got in trouble, your mom would use your first and middle name! This is just one of the fun memories, and I pray that God will give you all peace, comfort and strength and will allow you to always hold on to all those special memories you have. She is pain free now and totally healed in Jesus name. We love you

I remember the first time I met Jack and Shirley. As a friend of their daughter Sharon, they made me feel right at home. Knowing Sharon, I've been blessed for many years listening to Sharon talk about their family and the precious stories. Even though this is a very sad time for the family, I know you will be there for each other and God's grace will see you thru the days that are yet to follow this difficult time. I can still see the smile on Ms. Shirley's face as I entertained her with my singing and dancing - I think she thought I was nuts (she was right), but I was really trying to keep the mosquitos off my legs. I love you Ms. Shirley and I'm so happy that you are pain free. Thank you for being a part of my life.
