Richard W. Jernigan Sr., 76, of Jonesboro died Sunday, July 4, 2004 at his home in Jonesboro.
Richard was born on March 20, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri, a son of the late Richard Wann Jernigan and Edith Casteder Jernigan. He had lived in Jonesboro most of his life. Richard was a retired funeral director, a past Exalted Ruler of the Jonesboro Elks Lodge No. 498, and was of the Baptist belief. He was also a member of the Northeast Arkansas Funeral Directors Club, the Jonesboro Catfish Club and the Weiner Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Jernigan, and one sister, Skipper Gary.
Survivors include one son, Richard Wayne Jernigan Jr., and his wife Jill of Jonesboro; one grandson, Chris Jernigan, and his wife Christy of Plano, Texas; three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday July 6, 2004 in the chapel of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, with Reverend Harold Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
David Thompson, John Paul Thompson, Brad Carson, Bill Freeman, Roy Gehring and Dr. John Sanford will be active pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will include members of the Northeast Arkansas Funeral Directors Club, Jonesboro Catfish Club and Weiner Lions Club.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
