Dennis ''Butch'' Duane Johnson, 82, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2026, in Mountain Home. He was born on July 21, 1943, in Holdrege, Nebraska, to Ernest Olaf and Lois Irene (Hopkins) Johnson. He was married to Shirley (Engels) Johnson on September 3, 1966, at the Presbyterian Church in Westminster, Colorado. They loved to travel and did it for 59 long years.
Dennis graduated from Holdrege High School in 1961, attended the University of Nebraska in Kearney, until he quit after a year to start traveling. He traveled all over the United States and Mexico with his friends before finally settling in Colorado. When he did, he worked for the Colorado State Highway Department, starting as a roadway design level 1 and ending as a civil engineer project manager 2, from December 12, 1962, until his retirement on September 8, 1998. He would design bridges, roadways, highway interchanges, and drainage systems, all in accordance with environmental requirements. This also included later city and county roads. After Colorado, he moved to Nebraska and finally to Arkansas. He enjoyed football, hockey, hunting, fishing, reading, mountain climbing (climbed 25 14er's), traveling, and sightseeing.
Dennis is survived by his wife, son, Neil Johnson (Dee), three grandchildren: Alyssa (Alex), Alexander, and Alexis, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings: Melvin Johnson (Clyda), Merlyn Johnson (Dorcel), Larry Johnson, Doris Lavene (Daniel), Leone Woolen (Bernie) (second wife, Juanita), Lois Anderson (Donn), Dean Johnson (Jeanne), Rod Johnson, and Phyllis ''Bunny'' Wentling (Frank).
