Jack Donald Tipton
of Conway, AR
September 20, 1936 - March 6, 2026
Jack Donald Tipton, 89 of Conway, Arkansas, went peacefully to be with the Lord on March 6, 2026. He and his twin brother were born on September 20, 1936, in New Edinburg to Carey Lawson and Susie Belle Tipton. He grew up helping his father, who was a carpenter and a farmer, while his mother ran the house and kept a kitchen garden. She was known to barter her canned goods for services.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and sister Patsy Karine Tipton Childress.
Jack grew up in New Edinburg and graduated from New Edinburg High School in 1954. After a brief stint with the Army National Guard of Arkansas, he served in the army from August 1954 to August 1957. During this time, he was trained in the repair of communications equipment and jumping out of ''perfectly good planes''. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal, SP4. He then used the GI bill to obtain his B.S.E.E. Degree from the University of Arkansas in 1963. During this time, he met and married his wife, Glenda Childers, in 1961. In 1963, they were expecting their first child. After earning his degree, he became a test engineer with General Dynamics in Fort Worth TX. After about a year, he was transferred to New York where he worked for a short period of time before taking a cut in pay to get back to Arkansas where he worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for over 30 years. After his retirement, he went on to do contract work with the government for over 10 years. When he finally settled into his 2nd retirement, his family had grown to three daughters, 9 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren.
His focus in life has always been God and church. A common expression he would quote, ''There but for the grace of God go I", signified his humility in his upbringing and always gave God the glory for his successes in life. He raised his daughters in a godly home even through all the grumbles of being ''dragged'' to church every time the doors opened and suffered through the teenage years with prayer and perseverance. In the end, it all paid off by having a family who surrounded him with love and care during his last days.
Instead of flowers, we would like to encourage a donation to the church Jack was attending and serving at the time of his passing. Eastside Baptist Church in Conway Arkansas.
Jack is survived by his wife, Glenda Childers Tipton, his three daughters, Sondra Hutto, Elizabeth Franklin, and Donna Neely. He was Grandpa to 9 grandchildren, Dave Franklin Jr, Rhea Ann Hutto Zimmerman, Donald Franklin, Anderson Hutto, Kelly Franklin Eckert, Nathaniel Neely, Miranda Neely, Mykah Neely, and Gabriella Neely. He also had 6 great grandchildren to carry on with his legacy with more to come. He is also survived by his sister, Geraldine Tipton Lusby and brother Mack Ronald Tipton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00am at Eastside Baptist Church in Conway. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Park.
