Mary Sue Travis AlexanderDecember 30, 1927 - January 26, 2026
Mary Sue Travis Alexander was born in Williamson, WV on December 30, 1927. Her parents were Robert Haskell Travis and Nell Satterfield Travis. Known fondly to many as Susie, she was a lifelong musician. Majoring in voice, she graduated from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where she met her husband, John F. Alexander, who was a leading lyric tenor of the New York City and Metropolitan Opera Companies. Throughout their marriage, Susie was the major support system for his international career. Over the years she was a board member of the Cincinnati Opera Company and of the Metropolitan Opera Guild.
Sue Alexander died January died January 26 at the age of 98 in Bryant AR. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Alexander Batten and brother, R. Carroll Travis. Also by grand children Bonnie Alexander Harrington, Charles D Staples, great grandchildren Abigail Hanson, Jonah Staples, Ruby Mae Staples, Apollo Harrington and Cooper Staples as well as nieces Nell Campbell, Veronika Travis and nephew Robert Travis.
A memorial service and burial will be held on March 25, 2026 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with burial to follow at the Alexander family plot in Meridian Mississippi.
