Johnny Wayne Greenway

Johnny Wayne Greenway of Drasco, Arkansas was born January 23, 1951, in Batesville, Arkansas to Gladys (Ramsey) and Ewel Greenway. He passed away January 19, 2026, at the age of 74 at the John L. McClellan VA Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Johnny was raised in Mountain View and attended school at Mountain View. He later joined the military where he received his GED. He served 2 years in Korea and was a Vietnam veteran. Johnny laid telephone lines in Mountain View, Marshall and in Oklahoma. He worked on offshore oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana. He later became a boat captain which serviced the offshore oil rigs. In 1981, a helicopter crashed off the shores of Morgan City, Louisiana near the oil rig. He lassoed the helicopter, keeping the helicopter from crashing into the oil rig under extreme weather and sea conditions and threw a rope to the 3 crewmen. He received a letter of acknowledgment of thanks from Mobil Oil.
He suffered a stroke at the age of 48 that took many years of rehabilitation which totally changed his life.
Johnny still enjoyed deer hunting more than anything in life, he also enjoyed cutting wood and gardening.
He is survived by his very special friend of 19 years, Margret Hunt of the home. His son, Jesse Benbrook; two grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; mother, Gladys Johnson of Mountain View; sister, Marsha Dodson of Mountain View; 2 nephews, Lynn (Sandy) Dodson and Jerred Dodson of Mountain View; and a host of family, friends and neighbors. Johnny will be missed.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father; grandparents Dewey and Faye (Risner) Greenway; Walton ''Ott'' and Georgia (Gowens) Ramsey.
A funeral service will be held at Roller Crouch Funeral Home, Mountain View, Arkansas, Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Odell Altom officiating.
