Walter Louis Skelton, 93, of Conway, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026. Walter was born in 1932 in Conway, Arkansas. He was the second son of Jacob Yoes Skelton and Louise Mary Skelton (née Nabholz).
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jimmy Skelton, Dan Skelton, David Skelton, and Marion Swift; his parents, Louise and Jacob Skelton; his wife, Martha Ann Skelton; and a grandson, Jared Skelton.
He is survived by his children, Catherine Nash, Andrea Holt (Jamie), John Skelton, and Laura Skelton; grandchildren, Diane Howland (Tanner) and Jacob Skelton; great grandchildren (Carson, Tyler, and Tucker Howland); and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Walter was a proud graduate of St. Joseph School in Conway. He earned a degree in business administration from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA). Walter served in the U.S. Army as a medical technician. He went on to become the Chief Medical Technologist at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock. Walter was a member of UALR Law School's first graduating class. He served as the Arkansas Commissioner of Revenue and was appointed to the Public Service Commission by Governor Frank White. He later practiced law independently for many years.
Walter was an avid outdoorsman. He spent many weekends hunting and fishing. He especially loved turkey hunting and fly fishing. On one of the happiest days of his life, he killed two turkeys with a single shot. His children and grandchildren fondly remember the annual family fishing trips he organized.
Walter was also an avid reader and writer. He was never without a book, often reading and re-reading volumes about history and science. He wrote a number of unpublished stories and books, including a series of children's stories and a book about the U.S. Constitution. He also wrote a number of poems, essays, and letters to the editor.
Above all, Walter loved his family. He was a devoted son, proud sibling, and loving father. His children will miss him immensely.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 8, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St Joseph Catholic Church's Chapel in Conway, Arkansas. Burial will follow at St Joseph Cemetery.
