of Marshall, AR
October 23, 1944 - January 2, 2026
Harrel Ras Ragland, age 81 of the Landis Community near Marshall, Arkansas passed from this earthly life on Friday, January 2nd, 2026, at Conway Regional Hospital in Conway, Arkansas. He was born at Rock Springs, Arkansas on October 23rd, 1944, to Elmer Rosh Ragland and Mamie Henry Ragland. Harrel was married to Peggy Louise Freeman Ragland for 39 years before her passing in 2015.
Harrel was saved and baptized at Shiloh in 1958. Throughout his life, he showed a deep love for people and treated everyone with kindness and respect. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand however he could. His genuine care for others left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Harrel's parents engrained a legacy of enduring love for family and an ardent work ethic. He often spoke fondly of childhood memories with his brothers and sisters. Harrel loved to hunt and fish with his brothers and looked forward to the yearly Ragland campout in the forest to open muzzleloading season. Harrel would always get so tickled telling the story about the time he, Farrel, Rudail and Danny Freeman drove to Canada on a hunting trip. Rudail forgot to pack a sleeping bag, so they stopped and he bought one along the way. When they made camp, Rudail learned he had purchased a youth size sleeping bag that barely reached his waist. Harrel would laugh and say Rudail liked to have froze. Harrel was very proud of his service in the National Guard as a cook, where he made many lifelong friendships. He continued to be a wonderful cook throughout his life. Everyone looked forward to his deer dressing and mashed potatoes. Harrel made countless great memories with Peggy, his girls and grandkids fishing in Long Creek and the ponds on the Ridge. Harrel worked hard to build a wonderful life for his family. He told many stories of hard work with his brothers. They grew tomatoes and hauled them to Little Rock to sell at the market. They worked in the log woods and later Farrel and Harrel were partners in a successful sawmill. He worked as a mechanic at the Chevrolet dealership in Marshall. Harrel owned and operated a bulldozer. He worked tirelessly growing strawberries and was honored to hold the position of President of the Strawberry Association. Harrel was also a cattle farmer and enjoyed taking care of his cattle up to the day of his passing. Whatever it took, he was always willing to go the extra mile to provide for his family.
