Blanche Nichols Carterof Harrison, AR
December 24, 1942 - December 26, 2025
Blanche Nichols Carter of Harrison, AR, passed away Friday, December 26, 2025, at NARMC at the age of 83, born December 24, 1942. She was born to Alice Jannie Nichols and Charlie Clifton Nichols in Parkin, AR, later moving to Forrest City, AR. She was one of 11 children and was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Buck Nichols, Bill Nichols, Eugene Nichols, Donald Nichols, Mattie Lee Carter, Louise Webb, Lorine Morris, Maxine Montgomery, Annie Grace Hale, and Venita King, all of whom she held close in her heart throughout her life.
Blanche went to school in Parkin, AR. She worked in cotton fields and at a peach orchard in her younger years. Later, she worked at the GI factory in Forrest City, AR, making windshield wipers and motors. It was while she worked at the factory that she and her husband of 62 years, Archie A. Carter, began their relationship. She was 18 when they started dating, though they had known each other for a long time through their families. She said, ''He picked me up from work and took me home; come Friday, he asked me out.'' The two were married June 8, 1963.
When asked, Blanche said that her favorite memory was having her son, Byron. Her favorite vacation was the two of them taking Byron, then 6, to Colorado Springs to sightsee. Blanche babysat many children for many years of her life, which she enjoyed immensely. Anytime visiting her, you were likely to hear a story about one of the kids she loved and looked after. She loved her nephews and nieces, and loved spending time with them both then and in recent years.
Among the children she cared for was her own grandson, Colby Carter, whom she looked after frequently throughout his life. He fondly recalls spending time at her house, all of the meals she worked to make him, and her loving demeanor that made him feel at home. Blanche also loved playing with her great-grandsons, Easton, Asher, and Walker Carter. She would sing with them and tell stories. She loved making them laugh and bringing them joy.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 1 to 2:00 p.m. at Batavia Assembly of God, with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m., with Brother Phillip Collie and Brother Tollie Sutterfield officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
