James Morris Lawson

James Morris Lawson, 93, of Jonesboro, AR, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born on November 2, 1932, in Jonesboro, AR, to Jeff and Gladys (Gibson) Lawson. James was raised on a cotton farm on Casey Springs Road and attended a one room school, the Casey Springs School, until the 6th grade. He later graduated from Jonesboro High School before attending Arkansas State University, graduating in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
James served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1955, serving during the Korean War. As a civilian, he was employed as a letter carrier with the US Postal Service in Jonesboro from 1964 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. After retirement, he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car from 1993 until 2008.
James married the love of his life, Martha Malone, on August 29, 1967, and they enjoyed 31 years of marriage until her death in 1998.
He enjoyed watching the Red Wolves and the Razorbacks play football and basketball, and he loved playing beanbag baseball with his friends at Southwind Heights Independent Living Center. James was a faithful member of the Valley View Church of Christ.
James is preceded in death by his loving wife Martha, his parents, and his sister Marcella Ransone.
Those left to cherish the wonderful memories of James are his son James ''Jamie'' Lawson Jr. of Jonesboro; four nephews, Randy Ransone, Jeff Ransone, Jackson Ransone, and Scotty Simino; three nieces, Kassie Evans, Amy Cox, and Renea Kirtley; and many more friends and loved ones.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, beginning at 2pm at Roller Farmers Union Funeral Home (1900 W. Washington Ave. Jonesboro, AR 72401) with Spencer Furby and David Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation will precede the service from 1-2pm.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeff Ransone, Jackson Ransone, Joey Evans, Scotty Simino, Michael Cox, and Cameron Cox.
Arrangements are under the care of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
