Harriet Holloway Raley went to meet her Lord on November 26, 2025. She was born Adeline Harriet Holloway on February 15, 1940. She was the daughter of Carolyn Cook and Eugene Cleveland Holloway Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Jonathan Raley, III, daughter Deborah Carolyn Raley Finley and her husband David Keith ; Charles Jonathan Raley, IV, DC (Jon) and his wife, Amarylis Holley Martin and five grandchildren as well as four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Anne Rideout (husband Ken) and brother, Eugene Cleveland Holloway, III (wife Sally).
Harriet graduated from Central High School in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, Mississippi with a degree in Dietetics. She completed a Dietetic Internship at St. Mary's Hospital associated with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, to become a Registered Dietician. In her career, she served as a nutrition consultant for the Cincinnati Center for Developmental Disabilities (one of the first interdisciplinary diagnostic teams), served on the Greater Cincinnati Nutrition Council, and helped to write a newspaper column on nutrition for the Cincinnati Post Time Star. When the family moved to Frederick, Maryland, she served as Director of Nutrition Services at Frederick Memorial Hospital, helped start a chapter of the American Diabetes Association, served on the boards of the Maryland affiliate of the American Diabetes Association, and served on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association. In 1974 she was listed in Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans.
Harriet and her husband have served on the Harding University President's Council since 1984. Since retiring to Searcy in 1994, she has worked on quilts, as part of the PINS group, to benefit the scholarship fund of the Associated Women of Harding (AWH). She and her husband led Harding summer mission trips to Australia and Finland and she taught ladies bible class at College church of Christ. Harriet was an active member of the Garden Club serving as District Director and was inducted into the Circle of Roses in 2023. As a part of the AWH and Garden Club she helped to design and implement the beautiful Harding University campus Christmas lights and decorations, flying to Williamsburg, Virginia for inspiration. She served on the Executive Board of the White River Area Agency on Aging and was President of the Advisory Board. She also served on the Arkansas Governor's Advisory Council on Aging. She was a member of the Silver Haired Legislators Alumni Association of Arkansas and the Colonel Hardy Murfree Chapter of the DAR. In 2011 she was selected as one of the eight recipients of the Community Service Award initiated by the Arkansas Department of Human Service and sponsored by the Office of the Governor, KARK and the Duncan Law Firm. In 2016 she was inducted into the Senior Hall of Fame of the Arkansas Division of Aging and Adult Services.
Harriet served her church, her family, and her community all her life. She supported ''His House'' and ''Caring and Sharing'' ministries of the College church of Christ and served at the Voting Poles of White County. Her contributions in this life have been numerous and impactful and have made a lasting difference in the lives of many. ''Well done, good and faithful servant.''
