David Neil Comptonof Coy, AR
June 29, 1950 - November 6, 2025
David Neil Compton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community leader, passed away on November 6, 2025, in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 75.
Born in Little Rock on June 29, 1950, Neil grew up in Tomberlin and attended Tomberlin Elementary School. He graduated from England High School in 1968 and pursued higher education at Arkansas A&M in Monticello, the University of Central Arkansas, and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he was a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After 35 years of dedicated service at Farm Bureau Insurance, he retired in 2017. In retirement, he continued his lifelong love of learning by studying college-level subjects-such as history, science, philosophy, and the arts-through The Great Courses video series.
Neil's civic involvement was extensive and heartfelt. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, beginning with Troop 272 in Coy, later serving as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 349 in England, and chairing the Friends of Scouting for over two decades. He was a member of the England Jaycees, where he served as president, and was elected Mayor of Coy in 1980, serving for several years. He also served three terms on the England School Board, was sexton of the Tomberlin Cemetery, and volunteered as a firefighter for more than 40 years.
A man of deep faith, Neil was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church, first in Tomberlin and later in England, where he served in many roles, including Chairman of the Administrative Board for more than 20 years.
Neil had a lifelong love of the outdoors, especially hunting and shooting. He was a passionate supporter of conservation efforts, volunteering with Ducks Unlimited for over 30 years in various leadership roles, including area, zone, and district chairman. He was also a lifetime sponsor of the organization. Over the past 25 years, Neil developed a deep appreciation for pheasant hunting in Kimball, South Dakota. He was a member of the Bear Slough Duck Club, helped start the pickleball movement in southern Lonoke County, founded the World Championship Squirrel Hunt at Maddox Bay, and served as head greenskeeper of the England Country Club.
Neil is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; his children, Alesha (Ross), Jeb (Austin), and Kara (Brian); and his grandchildren, Jax, Beyla, Chace, Aven, Hayes, Harlyn, Curry, and Henley. He also leaves behind his brother, Don Compton (Judy), and a legacy of service, leadership, and dedication to his community.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. at England First United Methodist Church, located at 200 NE Second Street, England, Arkansas. A reception will follow at the England Country Club to honor and celebrate Neil's life.
