Nancy Thompson Wood

of Germantown, TN

March 25, 1951 - June 25, 2025

Nancy Thompson Wood passed away on June 25, 2025. Nancy was born in Minden, Louisiana on March 25, 1951 to W.H. ''Tommy'' Thompson and Frances Badgett Thompson, both of whom predeceased her.

Nancy graduated from Mnden High School in 1969 and entered the University of Arkansas to continue her education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1973. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority at the University of Arkansas. Nancy was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and attended many football and basketball games in Fayetteville over the last 50 years. She loved to Call the Hogs!

Depending on who you were, she was known as Nancy, Nancy Beth, Lil Nance, Aunt Nancy, Nan and Mom.

Nancy had a smile and laugh that always lit up a room. She made everyone feel welcomed and loved whether by the food she would cook, holidays and parties she would host, or a hug she would give.

Nancy was a great mother to her children, traveling around to country to see her son, Paul, play baseball. She was also a ''cheerleading'' mom for her daughter, Lisa, and ran the Germantown High School concession stand at football games for several years.

Nothing brought her more joy than being a grandmother to Davis, Ryan and Sloane.

Nancy also believed in giving back. She was very involved with Subsidium, Inc. which supported the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf (MOSD). She served as the President of Subsidium and was on the MOSD board of directors for several years. She was a member of the Germantown United Methodist Church and was active in the Women's ''cooking circle'' for several years.

Nancy leaves behind for husband of 51+ years, Joel G. Wood, her son, Paul B. Wood (Genie), her daughter Lisa W. Abbey (Kyle) and her three grandchildren Davis Wood, Ryan Abbey, and Sloane Abbey. She also leaves her brother, Dr. Robert Dee Thompson of Dallas, TX, and her sister-in-law, Ava W. Edwards of Tchula, MS along with several nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of Nancy's life in the future.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf.
