of Benton, AR
March 30, 1931 - June 8, 2025
June Childress of Benton, AR died on 6/8/25. She was 94 years old. She passed away peacefully in a nursing home with her daughter Debbie present. June enjoyed a very full, rich life. She was born in Mine La Motte, MO and grew up in Fredericktown. She met her husband Elmer when she was almost 18 years old when his gospel quartet came to her church to perform. She also sang that night, so it was evident they both had musical talent. Elmer always said it was love at first sight. It took June only 3 months to agree, and they got married. They enjoyed 73 wonderful years together. They raised three daughters â€" Pam, Debbie and Shari. After Elmer left the quartet business, he began working in radio and television in Wichita, KS. The ''Elmer Childress Show,'' featuring June and their three children, ran for 20 years on the NBC affiliate.
The family recorded 15 record albums and performed gospel music all over the world. June was a gifted seamstress and made a lot of the matching outfits she and the girls wore, and even made Elmer a tie with the same material on some occasions. Elmer and June moved to Madison, WI when they were in their early 50's and Elmer became the Weather Director for WMTV. June and Elmer hosted 46 trips all over the world with Holiday Vacations where they performed gospel music and entertained everyone with their fun sense of humor. June was a very good volleyball player and played 3-4 times a week, and made lots of wonderful and lasting friendships from that. One of her volleyball teams received a gold medal at the Senior Olympics. June and Elmer loved playing cards with family and friends. Bridge was her favorite game. June and Elmer moved to Benton, AR where they enjoyed a wonderful retirement with family and friends. Everyone loved June, who was fun to be around, and full of love.
June is survived by her daughters Debbie and Shari, grand children Justin, Becky and Nick, and great granddaughters Sirena and Briley. Their oldest daughter Pam passed away in 2021 and Elmer passed away in 2022. June is now rejoicing in heaven with her husband, daughter, mother, father, sisters, bothers and other family and friends who preceded her.
The family has asked, in lieu of flowers, that donations go to Trinity Baptist Church, 702 Church St, Benton, AR 72015.
