John Jarchow

John Milton Jarchow was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on May 5, 1947 to Lawrence William and Evelyn Irene Wessner Jarchow. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Daykin, Nebraska, on May 25, 1947 by Reverend O.R Heinitz. He was confirmed at Immanuel on May 21, 1961 by Reverend Carl Mennicke. John attended Daykin Public School and graduated as valedictorian of his small class size of six in May of 1965. He always joked about graduating in "the top six of his class."

Growing up in rural Nebraska, he enjoyed riding in the Silver Bit Riders saddle club, showing cattle for 4-H Projects and playing high school sports, especially basketball. He was the starting forward on the Daykin High School team, which won the district championship in 1965.

John graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS degree in Animal Science. While attending the University, he was president of his fraternity Delta Upsilon, president of the Kosmet Klub, a campus theatrical organization, a member of the winning livestock judging team at American Royal in Kansas City in 1969 and the high individual at the Chicago International Livestock Judging contest as a member of the university's livestock judging team in 1969.

On August 30th, 1969, he married Cheryl Marie Adams in Broken Bow, Nebraska. They had two children, Jeffrey and Michelle. They divorced in 2011.

John worked for Wilson & Co., a meat-packing company in Omaha and later at their headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In 1974, he returned to Nebraska to farm. In 1984, he joined Iowa Beef Packers' pork division in Storm Lake, Iowa as a salesman. He was transferred to Dakota City IBP headquarters and worked as a pork quality control manager and later a regional sales manager. In 1988, he joined Monfort & Co (Swift Co) in their pork sales department. He was promoted to VP of Quality Control in 1994 and served in various positions as VP of Customer Service and Transportation with Swift until his retirement in 2006.

John married Charlotte Cottrell on May 20, 2014 and they resided in Mountain Home, Arkansas, where they attended Redeemer Lutheran Church.

John was a lifelong member of Lutheran churches in various communities in which he lived. He served in various positions in these churches, including congregational chairman, elder, chairman of elders and financial secretary.

John loved his wife, family and friends, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, gardening and woodworking.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Evelyn and two brothers, Jack (Shari) and Eugene (Bonnie). He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; son, Jeffrey and grandchildren, Jonathan, Grace, Benjamin and Ivy of Timnath, Colorado; daughter, Michelle Jenkins (Shawn) and grandchildren, Hailey and Brianna Weber of Nashville, Tennessee; stepson, Dustin Cottrell and step-grandson, Cameron Cottrell of Omaha as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 72430 567th Ave, Daykin, NE 68338. Interment at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery
