Douglas Allen Bowman, beloved husband, father and friend to all, died peacefully on May 14, 2025 surrounded by his family and good friend and brother, Mostafa Sedighizadeh. Born in Shaw, Mississippi on August 31, 1962. He spent his childhood in Ruleville and Pearl, Mississippi where he played football at Pearl High School and was a stand-out linebacker. Doug was a man of great intelligence always encouraging his colleagues to seek higher education. He never stopped learning and was an avid reader. He enjoyed reading history books about WW1, WW2, Winston Churchill and the influential writings of Mississippi native John Grisham. He was a proud graduate of Mississippi State University in Starkville Mississippi (Hail State) where he earned a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering. He was currently pursuing a PHD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville.
He met his future wife, Melissa ''Misi'' Joy Martin, at the local skating rink. They were happily married for 30 years. In 1993 they welcomed a beautiful baby boy and named him Jonathan, meaning the ''child was given as a gift from God''. He and his family moved to Little Rock where he was hired at Southwest Power Pool in 2008 for 17 years and 3 months until his death. He enjoyed working at SPP in the Engineering Department.
His beloved Misi died in 2015. They were happily married for 30 years. He met Kitty McArthur, who also worked at SPP. They were married on October 14, 2016 until his death on May 14, 2025.
Doug was a Lead Research and Development Engineer at Southwest Power Pool in Little Rock Arkansas. He has over 37 years of experience in the electric power systems industry ranging from substation and transmission line design, construction, and testing, to transmission system planning and research. His current area of expertise is power system modeling, grid stability analysis, Inverter Based Resources, and HVDC, as well as the development and delivery of engineering courses for graduate engineers. He has a BSEE and MSEE from Mississippi State University and is a Doctoral candidate at the University of Arkansas in Electric Power Systems. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in its Systems Engineering Department and is currently an instructor for the IEEE Power and Energy Society. Mr. Bowman is a Senior Member of the IEEE, past Chair of the Arkansas Chapter of the IEEEE Power and Energy Society and a Professional Engineer in the state of Arkansas.
Doug was a man of exemplary character, showing intense love for family, friends and strangers alike. His kindness and patience will be remembered by everyone that knew him. He constantly pursued knowledge and education throughout his life. He was a teacher and a mentor to many who knew him and freely shared his knowledge and experience and was often sought after for advice and instruction, Although he lived in Arkansas in the later part of his life, his heart was always in the Mississippi Delta - he had a deep love and respect for the history, culture, and music of his birthplace.
Doug was preceded in death by his first wife, Misi Bowman and parents, Linda and Rayford Bowman. He is survived by son, Jonathan Bowman and wife, Kitty Bowman; stepson, Neal McArthur; brother, Charles Bowman (Mary); sister, Lynette Gregg, (Mike) and his loving and beautiful dog, Lexie; along with a host of extended family and friends. Doug was proud to be an ARORA donor to help anyone in need.

The gravesite burial is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23rd at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, Mississippi.
