Opal Lee McDermott

of Wynne, AR

September 5, 1932 - May 13, 2025

Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant

Opal, lovingly known as Mom and Nana Mac, was a true Southern lady, a woman of deep faith, grace, and strength. Born and raised in the Delta town of Parkin, Arkansas, she lived her life with purpose and heart. A devoted wife to Jesse McDermott, Opal was his faithful partner in life and in love. They married on February 13, 1951, and spent decades building a family rooted in values that endure: love, service, faith, and integrity. Opal was a farmer's wife, a nurturer, and a woman far ahead of her time. In the 1980s, she opened a health food store, (Bread & Honey) where she shared her passion for healthy living with her community. Long before wellness trends, she was living and teaching them with quiet confidence and care. She led by example, always dressed in style and always ready to serve. She was a wonderful cook, a gracious hostess, and a spiritual anchor to those around her. A devoted member of her community, Opal served as President of the Parkin Garden Club and led town beautification efforts for many years.

A Woman of Wisdom & Prayer Opal was a lifelong learner, a constant reader, and someone who kept up with current events while growing steadily in godly wisdom. She shared her gifts freely, offering counsel, comfort, and prayer to so many. Her family and friends knew her as a true Prayer Warrior, always ready with just the right scripture at the right time. She and Jesse enjoyed traveling in their later years, creating joyful memories and living out the peace they had earned.

Opal is survived by her sister Shirley Crawford (Jerry) and brother Dee Bradford. She is survived by her children; Debbie Young (Phillip), Jan Voyles (Jerry), Eddy McDermott (Peg). Her beloved grandchildren Jamey Hobbs, Philip Young, Bradford Young (Brooke), Megan Green (Clay), Ginger Thomann (Jeremy), Joseph McDermott (Liz), Harrison Young, Anna McDermott. Her great-grandchildren; Audrey Young, Carson Hobbs, Christian Young, Lexton Young, Mitchum Young, Ansleigh Hobbs, McCoy Green, Abbott Young, Coltrane Green, Mila McDermott. Proceeded in death; Jesse McDermott, Jess Bradford and Alberta Hite Bradford, George Bradford, Ora Frazier, Neal Bradford and Brenda Bradford

A Final Blessing Opal's legacy is one of strength, grace, and unwavering faith. She lived fully, loved deeply, and lifted others through her words, her wisdom, and her walk with God. It was a life well lived. Blessed by God.

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

For I know the plans I have for you,'' declares the LORD, ''plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11
