Lani Sarah Enggano

of Little Rock, AR

November 30, 1932 - April 20, 2025

Lani Sarah Enggano (Tan Giok Lian) passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025 in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 92. She was born on November 30, 1932 in Blitar, East Java, Indonesia to Tan Ping Gwan and Oh Dien Nio.

In 1950, Lani married I.B. Enggano (Kwee Ting Bo) and together they raised their family in Surabaya, Indonesia. They had three children, Ishak (Kwee Hong Liat), Ingga "Ruth" (Kwee Sioe Ing) and Andreas (Kwee Hong Jauw). Following political unrest, Lani and I.B. relocated their family to Bangkok, Thailand, before ultimately settling in Shannon Hills, Arkansas, in 1975. Their children had already moved to the United States to pursue higher education.

In Arkansas, Lani and I.B. operated a laundromat for many years and were active members of the Shannon Hills community. They regularly attended Vimy Ridge Immanuel Baptist Church in Alexander. One of her proudest moments was becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1998.

Lani was preceded in death by her beloved husband, I.B. and her son, Andreas. She is survived by her son, Ishak Enggano and his wife, Gail; her daughter, Ingga "Ruth" Purkiss and her late husband, David and her daughter-in-law, Linna, widow of Andreas.

She leaves behind six grandchildren, Brian Enggano and his wife, Andrea, Marcia Enggano, Jonathan Purkiss-Jones and his husband, Paul, Kimberly Kwee and her husband, Mark Barnes, Timothy Purkiss and his wife, Morgan and Hailey Enggano.

Lani was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Ella and Mia Enggano, Olive Barnes and Sophie and Emory Purkiss. Affectionately known as "Oma" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lani will be remembered for her gentle spirit, infectious laugh and boundless love. She loved to cook Indonesian and Dutch food for her family, sing hymns and sew, making her daughter Ingga's wedding dress by hand. She also enjoyed collecting knickknacks such as ceramics and dolls, displaying them neatly around her home.

A funeral service will be held at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church in Little Rock, Arkansas on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 1:00 PM. Flowers may be sent to Roller-Chenal Funeral Home on Chenal Parkway in Little Rock.

Lani lived a life marked by deep devotion to her family, steadfast faith in God and quiet strength through every season. Her warmth and enduring love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
