of Conway, AR
July 26, 1940 - January 23, 2024
Billy Wayne Nick, 83, of Conway died Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Billy was born July 26, 1940 in Gillette, AR to Arthur and Ethel Smith Nick.
He spent over 30 years working for Southern Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad and retired as an engineer. When not working, he loved spending time with family and doing things with his grandkids, like getting ice cream treats after school or pulling them on a sled behind the lawnmower.
Due to a tragic accident, Billy was left paralyzed and spent the last 14 years confined to a wheelchair. He handled that adversity with strength and grace and continued being a leader. One who was always particular about how things were done, he spent much of his last 14 years ''training'' his loving caretakers at Superior Health and Rehab in Conway. He competed in the Nursing Home Olympics on several occasions and was a fierce domino player. Billy even found ways to still have adventures with his granddaughters by riding them around on the back of his powered wheelchair. He was a role model for so many and was often overheard telling his fellow residents at Superior Rehab to stop complaining because they still had things to be thankful for!
Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Nick and three sisters, Wanda Shirley, Betty Tackett and Thelma Lisko. Survivors are one sister, Willa Dome of El Dorado; three sons, Jeff (Tracye) Nick of McCrory, AR, Michael (Kara) Nick of Abernathy, TX and Marty (Kristina) Nick of Greenbrier, AR; 9 grandkids and one great-grandchild.
