Honorable Jack Medlin Lewis, retired Van Buren County (Municipal) District Judge, passed away November 9, 2023 at his home in Shirley, Arkansas. He was born on September 14, 1933 in Pangburn, Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his parents, C.L. (Linis) and Evelyn (Medlin) Lewis; his sisters, Sammie Pollard of Searcy, Naomi Hooks of Little Rock, Francis Lewis of North Little Rock and a son, Toby Lewis.

Jack's father was in the lumber business, owning planer mills in Pangburn, Morrilton and Shirley. He spent time in each of these communities as a child, graduating from Pangburn High School in 1951. Jack received honorable discharges from the United States Army, the United States Navy and the Arkansas National Guard. After serving in the Army, during the Korean War, he enrolled at Arkansas Teachers College (UCA) in Conway. Jack then transferred to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree and attended law school. In 1961, Jack passed the Arkansas Bar and opened his first law practice in Searcy. He moved to Clinton in the mid-1960s where he served as the Deputy prosecutor and opened a law practice. He then served as Van Buren County Municipal Judge for over 20 years. Jack supported many community projects and was a member of the Clinton Methodist Church. The Arkansas Supreme Court granted him the status of Attorney Emeritus in appreciation for his over 50 years of dedication and honorable service to the legal profession. Jack received this distinguished award in 2017. He enjoyed playing dominoes, shooting pool, fishing and spending time on his boat.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherry (Bradford) Lewis of Shirley; his daughters, Jacqueline C. Lewis of Michigan, Cassandra Lewis of Shirley, Brandi Lewis of South Carolina; a stepson, Karl A. B. Schmidt of Missouri; one sister, Rachel Davis of Bryant; two grandchildren, Hunter Croswell and Madeline Patterson; two-step grandsons, Liam and Karl Schmidt; two great granddaughters, Ellie and Flora Croswell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 10:00 am on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at the Settlement Baptist Church in Shirley. Jack's dear friend, Ester Bass will officiate.
