of Black Rock, AR

March 28, 1942 - September 18, 2023

Larry Burrow, 81, passed away Monday, September 18, 2023 at his home in Black Rock. Larry was born in Colon, Panama to Earl and Imojean Burrow, March 28, 1942. Larry and his family moved to West Memphis, Arkansas at an early age, he attended Primary School in West Memphis, moved to Earle, Arkansas in third grade and continued to attend Earle schools, where he graduated in 1960. Growing up on a family row-crop farm, he was very active in the total process of preparing, planting and harvesting cotton, beans and rice. At the age of 14 he traveled to Des Arc, a 100-mile trip, to work and supervise other workers starting the beginning of the new farming operation at Des Arc. In the fall of 1960, he enrolled at Arkansas State and graduated with an Agriculture Education degree in 1964. Later earning a Master's degree, plus additional educational training.

In June 1964 he married Ann Davis and they moved to Imboden, where she was teaching and his first teaching position was in Poughkeepsie. After a year in Poughkeepsie, he came to Sloan Hendrix to teach Chemistry and other Science classes. His next employment was with Production Credit Association. He later taught Agri at Strawberry. After a year at Strawberry, he came back to Sloan Hendrix, where he completed his teaching career in 1997 with 32 years of service.

Larry was also a cattle farmer, being named Lawrence County farm family of the year in 2003. Larry was a member of the Arkansas Vocational Agri Teacher Association, Arkansas Cattleman's Association, Smithville Masonic Lodge, Lawrence County Water Board and the Smithville Methodist Church. He was a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Burrow; mother, Imojean Burrow; two sons, Clent (Angela) Burrow and Cass Burrow; four grandchildren Skyler, David, Luke and Breanna; sister, Sallye (Kenneth) King; brother, Rodney (Debbie) Burrow and sister-in-law, Betty Neeley.

Preceding him in death is his father, Earl Burrow.

During retirement he enjoyed traveling with friends Steve and Rebecca Jones. He also enjoyed working and attending the grandchildren's activities. His career with his black cattle was his dream, green grass, black cattle, hay bales and working on the farm with family.

His inspiration for a strong faith was his grandparents, Miser and Sylvia Emery. They were also an example to him in living the "good life" in the hills of Arkansas.

Larry thought everyone preached their funeral through their daily living. Growing up he attended the First Baptist Church in Earle and later attended services at the Smithville Methodist Church where he served in many leadership roles. He wasn't concerned about the type of church as long as his name was in the Book at the gates of heaven.
