Bill HolzmanI am a Veteran.

of Charleston, AR

November 12, 1936 - August 2, 2023

Billy Wayne Holzman, 86, of Charleston, AR passed away on August 2, 2023 after a prolonged illness.

Bill was born in Roseville, AR on November 12, 1936. He graduated from County Line High School in 1954 where he was Senior Class President. He also served in the AR Army National Guard.

Bill was married to Dona Burton on May 10, 1957 and they were married 66 years. They shared common goals for serving the Lord, each other and their families.

Bill had a long and successful career with Western Union Telegraph for 31 years. He began his second career as a funeral director in the mid-1980s. He served as a funeral director at Smith's Mortuary in Charleston, AR for many years before retiring.

Throughout Bill's life he invested time, talent and treasure in his church. He was actively involved in teaching Sunday School and serving as a deacon in many churches over the years and most recently at First Baptist Church of Charleston, AR. For several years, he also proudly served as a board member for Camp Siloam.

Bill obsessively worked in his yard and gardens and loved when others noticed his lawn and blooming flowers. His lawn served as a haven to birds and he fed them daily, to make sure they hung around. He was a gifted, quick-witted storyteller and delighted friends and especially younger family members with recalling events, antics of the past and how he would get so tickled at his own narration and recollections.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Norene Holzman and brothers, Bob, Phil and Don.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dona Burton Holzman; his son, Rod Holzman of Charleston, AR; his daughter, Lynn Holzman Pharr of Maumelle, AR; a grandson, Nathan Pharr (Emily) of Kill Devil Hills, NC; a granddaughter, Sarah Pharr (Jason Gavenman) of Durham, NC; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Penelope and Noah; one sister, Pam Holzman Tobey (David) of Charleston, AR; brother and sisters-in laws, Haskell and Martha Casalman of Caulksville, AR; Tiny Holzman of Grand Prairie, TX; Carolyn Holzman of Central City, AR, many nieces and nephews and his beloved four-legged constant companion, ''Babe''/Rosco.

Visitation will be held at 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, August 6th at Roller Funeral Home in Paris. The funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, August 7th at Roller Funeral Home in Paris, AR. Reverend Bill VanMeter will be officiating. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston, AR.
