Calvin Walker, beloved son of John and Mable (Wells) Walker, was born on January 10, 1925, in Cumi, Arkansas. On May 24, 2023, he peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Calvin's life was one filled with service, honor, and a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. He served his country as a dedicated sergeant in the Army, where he was a commander of tank destroyers. Calvin's commitment and bravery were evident in the numerous accolades he received, including four bronze stars, a silver star, and a good conduct medal. His contributions to the armed forces will forever be remembered.
Outside of his military career, Calvin had a profound love for nature. He found solace and joy in hunting turkey and deer, casting his fishing line into tranquil waters, and immersing himself in the wonders of the natural world. An avid outdoorsman, he possessed a deep respect for the environment and shared his passion with those around him.
Calvin's faith was an integral part of his life. For 40 years, he attended East Oakland Baptist, where his presence was felt as he led the congregation in song as their dedicated song leader. His unwavering commitment to his church community was a testament to his faith and devotion.
He is survived by his loving son, Gary (Chris) Walker, who will carry his memory and values forward. Calvin also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Amy Walker Manns, Luke Walker, Vince Walker and Tracy Cox, as well as several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his brother, JA Walker, sisters Bonita Montgomery and Nadine Moore, and a vast network of nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his kindness and wisdom.
Calvin Walker will be remembered as a dedicated soldier, a passionate outdoorsman, a devoted church member, and a beloved family man. His legacy will forever be cherished, and his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A visitation for Calvin will be held at Roller Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 30 at 9:00-10:00 a.m., with the service following at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Van Brown officiating. The pallbearers will be Luke Walker, Brett Walker, Kevin Walker, Terry Walker, David Walker, George Manns and honorary pallbearer, Vince Walker. Interment will be in East Oakland Cemetery.
