Johnny MatlockI am a Veteran.

of Harrison, AR

March 13, 1936 - May 20, 2023

Johnny Glen Matlock passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at North Arkansas Medical Center, Harrison, Arkansas. Johnny was born in Omaha, Arkansas, to Ray and Roxie Matlock. He is survived by his spouse, the love of his life, Lula Belle Foresee. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. They had two sons, Johnny Clay, and wife, Sherri, and Michael Glen; four grandchildren, Jordan and husband Jay Petz, Shelby and husband Micah Laird, Chandler, and Macy Obregon and husband Marcus; two great-grandchildren, Bo Petz, and Rhen Petz. Survivors also include two brothers, Stanley of Joplin, Missouri and Charles Ray of California; one-step sister, Wilma Fitchue and one-step brother, Jackie Hudson; He was preceded in death by grandparents, Walter & Birdie Matlock; father, Ray, and mother, Roxie; step-mom, Dovie and step-mom, Ethel and a brother, Gerald.

Johnny was very proud of his eight years in the United States Navy and equally proud that his Grandson, Chandler, has followed this path, currently serving as the Reactor Control Division Leading Petty Officer aboard the USS Ohio.

His life passion was his love for God's beautifully created outdoors. He was an accomplished hunter and fisherman, as well as an excellent golfer. For Johnny, nothing compared with a beautiful sunrise just before tee-off, or leaving the boat ramp, or observing from a cold tree stand during deer season. Whatever he did, he strove to do it with meticulousness and excellence. He loved to keep records. In his home, you can find:
* Stacks of golf scorecards from over 500 rounds in which he shot his age or less, seven holes in one, including two on the same hole, two
days in a row, and with the same ball.
* The number of Western novels he has read.
* Detailed charts of his dart games - which started once he was indoors more due to illness.
* The number of times he has read the entire Bible (which reading scripture and prayer began each day).
* The number of laps he walked around the house (he had a route).

Whatever the task, Johnny was intentionally striving for excellence.

Johnny considered his greatest accomplishment in life, his faith journey, and the legacy he left his family. He would be the first to say, "I am not perfect,"... but his desire to be the absolute best for his family and God is clear.
