Nagel Champlin

of Austin, AR

October 5, 1946 - August 27, 2022

Nagel Champlin passed away peacefully at home in Austin, Arkansas, August 27, 2022. In 2006, Nagel retired after 35 years as an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad. Within a year after retirement, Nagel's life was extended when he received the sacrificial gift of a kidney from his daughter, Trisha. Nagel enjoyed an active retirement and the opportunity to enjoy his grandchildren after the miracle of his kidney transplant.

Born on October 5, 1946, Nagel grew up on the dairy farm where he learned the value of hard work. He was the son of Charles and Lillie Mae Champlin, who preceded him in death. He was a good friend to many and was always ready to help his neighbors and friends whenever he saw the opportunity. When he wasn't "working on the railroad", Nagel enjoyed the farm and tending to his cows, holding a fishing pole, or making his grandkids move a woodpile. He and his adoring wife, Donna of 45 years, were blessed to host many holiday gatherings for their family, showing up at Christmas in their later years as Santa Pa and Santa Ma.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Champlin; sister, Pat Brockinton (Frankie Cox) of Austin; daughter, Trisha Champlin of Austin; son, Chuck Champlin of Austin; stepchildren, Deanne (Jeff) Moore of Searcy, Leanne (Vernon) Pribble of Wynne and Shane (Janet) Sumler of Austin; grandchildren, Tory Lee, Cooper and Lily Champlin, Annie Keese, Jared and Luke Moore, Hannah and Avery Lynn, Sadie Fritsch, Jordan and Kristen Sumler, Emily Campbell and six great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Traci McLean for the loving care given to Nagel and Donna for the past two years.

Nagel was a faithful member and leader at Baugh Chapel Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Baugh Chapel Baptist Church Thursday evening, September 1, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral will be held Friday, at Baugh Chapel Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with burial following at Sixteenth Section Cemetery.
