Phoebe Joy (Hendrix) Chambers was born in Benton, Arkansas on August 12, 1941. She was preceded in death by her father, Brian; her mother, Mabel, and her husband, Lindy Dale Chambers, Sr. She was a loving and giving soul to her five children and their spouses; her 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Phoebe has been lovingly given several nicknames, "Granny" by her grandchildren; "GiGi" by her great-grandchildren; "Pokey" by her childhood and young adulthood friends and "Speedy" by her children due to her uncanny ability to be tardy to family events and a coworker who misunderstood her name on the phone and called her Speedy.
Phoebe lived a life of service to others in her community. She attended Benton Public Schools and later received diplomas and degrees as an Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Psychiatric Technical Nurse and Licensed Practical Nurse. She served as a volunteer at the Springhill Fire Department, a Saline County reserve deputy and dispatcher. She later become an EMT for two Little Rock ambulance services and went on to work for over 20 years as security at the Alexander Youth Service Center. Her final role before retirement was working as a geriatric nurse at the Arkansas Health Center.
Phoebe's many hobbies included cooking for her family, including dozens of homemade pies for holiday gatherings, collecting Peanuts memorabilia (especially Snoopy), playing Solitaire on her computer, watching old western movies, listening to music by Barbra Streisand and reading her Bible.
Phoebe entered heaven one day prior to her 81st birthday. Her family and friends wish her the happiest celebration in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Jesus!
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name, to either the American Cancer Society at cancer.org or to the Saline County Humane Society at hssaline.org.
