Elmer Leslie Followell, age 83, of Diamond City, Arkansas passed away Monday, July 18, 2022, at Cox Medical Center in Branson, Missouri. He was born Saturday, April 22, 1939, in Weldon, Illinois to Fred and Geneva Galloway Followell.

Elmer joined the Army when he turned 18 in 1957. After serving 20 years he retired in 1976, with the rank of E7 (Sergeant First Class). His position was Track Vehicle Maintenance. He served in Vietnam from December 12, 1966, thru December 11, 1967. During his career he was awarded medals for his service, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 1st thru 6th Awards, 2 Overseas Bars, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Commendation Medal, Expert Badge with.45 cal pistol, Sharpshooter Badge w/M-16 Rifle, Meritorious Service Medal and Mechanics Badge. His last overseas tour was in Germany. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, where he held many positions including Post Commander of AL Post 3, Magnolia, Arkansas, and became a lifetime member of Post 340, Diamond City in 2014, VFW, and 40/8. He met and married his wife, Nancy (Shorty) of 22 years in Fountain, Colorado and in 2003 they moved to Arkansas.

Elmer is preceded in death by his parents, Fred (Jake) and Geneva Galloway Followell; brothers, Tom, Lloyd, Robert (Bob) and Skip Followell and sisters, Alice Mae Followell and Finisa Foltz.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Followell, of the home, Diamond City, Arkansas; son, Elmer Followell, Jr, daughter, Vicky Followell (Mike Walsh); son, Peter Followell (Rhonda Pechaco); daughter, Roberta Davis (David Bliss); grandchildren, Jeffery, Jessie, Christi, Kaitlyn, William, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Deliha and Chance; sisters, Betty Foley, Irma Hopper, Frances Tomes, and sister-in-law, Ruth Followell. Elmer had an enthusiasm for life that was full of love, laughter, adventure, family, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
