Troy Lee Rimmer of Paragould, Arkansas, 100, died Friday, May 20, 2022 at Springhill Baptist Health, North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born on February 27, 1922 to John and Alma Rimmer in Connells Point, Arkansas.
Mr. Rimmer grew up helping his dad on the farm. At the age of 21, he was drafted into the United States Army. During World War II he fought in the New Guinea Campaign, the Philippines and Japan. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he returned to Phillips County in Arkansas. Later, he moved to Sterling, Illinois where he went to work for Northwest Steele and Wire as a truck driver. Mr. Rimmer retired from Northwest Steele and Wire and moved to Steinhatchee, Florida. He returned to Arkansas and moved to Paragould, where he has lived for the past 19 years.
Mr. Rimmer was an active member of the DVA (Disabled Veterans Association) of Jonesboro, Arkansas until health issues prevented him from participating in the DVA projects. He was the Grand Marshall of the 2019 Jonesboro Veteran's Day Parade. Mr. Rimmer was included in the Greene County Tech Veterans Hall of Fame in 2021 and he was aboard the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2012.
Mr. Rimmer was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Gladys Rimmer; parents, John and Alma Rimmer; a son, Jerry Dale Rimmer of Rock Falls, Illinois; a daughter, Marth Gayle Rimmer of Illinois; a stepson, Kenneth Biggers; a brother, Coy Rimmer of West Memphis, Arkansas; three sisters, Christine Holland of Rock Falls, Illinois, Chestine Huckaba of Rock Falls, Illinois and Geneva Hendrix of Rock Falls, Illinois.
Mr. Rimmer leaves to mourn his passing, two sons, Terry Lee Rimmer, Jr. (Kathy) of St. Louis, Missouri and Archie Lee Rimmer (Debbie) of Arizona; a step-daughter, Brenda Blakey of North Carolina; a sister, Mildred McClain of Lexa, Arkansas; grandchildren, Billy, Tammy, John, Roger, Lucas and Adam and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service for Troy Lee Rimmer will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens on May 23, 2022 at 2 p.m. Brother Lance Madden will officiate.
