Gayle Brooks

of Mountain Home, AR

May 7, 2022

Gayle Brooks, 92, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away in his home on Saturday, May 7, 2022. He was born on June 18, 1929 in Edgar, Nebraska to parents Harry and Gladys (Beck) Brooks.

In his younger years, Gayle worked as an electrician at a steel mill and at Great Western Sugar Company in Kansas and Colorado. In his later years, he felt called to preach and would often preach in various churches. He pastored Baptist churches in Elizabeth, Colorado and at the First Baptist Church of Cotter, Arkansas, Lakeview Baptist Church outside of Mountain Home, and most recently the Clarkridge Baptist Church of Clarkridge, Arkansas until his death.

Gayle always loved to be with his family and friends. He loved the Lord with his whole heart and his greatest desire was to preach and teach others about Jesus. He and Alice traveled to Michigan, North Carolina, Alabama, and Colorado where he would preach revivals. They also traveled to South Dakota to do mission work as well.

Gayle loved to share his love of fishing with lots of people and take them out on the river on his boat. He enjoyed hunting for deer, and not only did he hunt them, but he also had a knack for hitting more than one deer in the same month with both his vehicles, as well as a couple of horses along the way. Like the Energizer bunny, he managed to survive all of his injuries. He enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours in his shop building things. He loved music and taught himself how to play the dulcimer and he would sing and play at various church events. He was also an excellent gardener.

Gayle is survived by his wife, Alice, of 35 years; 5 children, Phyllis Monroe, Kathryn (John) Cross, Ramona (Bob) Newman, Connie Bell and Rodney Brooks; 2 stepchildren, Richard (Leny) Greenlee and Jeanie (Ed) Bard; sister, Joyce Bennett; brother, Gary (Dee) Brooks and brother-in-law, Jack Stromer of Nebraska. He also had a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He will be missed by multiple nieces and nephews as well. He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Gordon and Roland ''Bud'' Brooks; 2 sisters, Barbara Rynearson and Darlene Stromer; daughter, Twila Van Dell; 2 grandsons, Brian Freel and Joey Monroe and 2 stepsons, Jack Greenlee and Robert Greenlee.
