Doris M. Ivey

Doris M. Ivey of Little Rock died on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Arkansas Hospice. She was 101 years old.

Mrs. Ivey, widow of the late Dr. George F. Ivey, was born in Campbellton, Florida, in August, 1920, the daughter of Grover and Eula Ball joining a large family of brothers and sisters, now all deceased. She attended high school in Florida, where she met her future husband, to whom she was married for more than 71 years until his death in 2011. She had two sons, Frank, who died in 2010, and David, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She also boasted of two granddaughters and four great-granddaughters.

Active in church events in Dr. Ivey's career in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Springdale, Camden, Hot Springs, and Fort Smith, Arkansas, Mrs. Ivey taught numerous Sunday School classes and spoke often to civic, religious and charitable organizations. For more than 60 years she was actively involved in the P.E.O. women's educational philanthropic organization.

Throughout her life she enjoyed participating in community organizations especially involving herself in crafts and artistic endeavors. She was widely known for her incisive book reports on topics of current interest.

Since their retirement in Little Rock Dr. and Mrs. Ivey were active in Sunday School and church events at St. James United Methodist Church. They were residents of the Shepard's Cove community for more than 10 years. Since 2020, Mrs. Ivey was a resident at Encore of West Little Rock.

Arrangements are being handled by Roller-Chenal Funeral Home of Little Rock. Inurnment will take place at St. James Columbarium at a later date. The family has requested that memorials be directed to Arkansas Hospice.
