Martha "Peggy" Louise Gregg

of West Memphis, AR

July 19, 1922 - April 2, 2022

Peggy Gregg was born to Charles and Clytes Gregg on July 19, 1922, and departed this life on April 2, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Gregg Jr.; one nephew, David Charles Gregg. Survivors include sister-in-law, Phyllis Gregg Mott (Phillip); niece, Denise Bell (Jim); great nieces, Sydney Nichols (Klye) and Sheridan Gouge (Cale), two great-great nieces, Ivy and Letti; and two great-great nephews, Chet and Axton.
Peggy, a true Southern lady, grew up in Hughes, Arkansas, at a time when transportation was mostly by horse drawn carts and carriages on dirt streets. She loved telling stories about growing up in these long-forgotten days. Peggy was a gifted child who excelled in school and secured her first job at an early age working at a telephone company after school and on the weekends. At only 16 years of age, she was elected by the Daughters of the American Revolution to represent Arkansas in their pilgrimage to Washington D.C., and the National Capitol. She and her chaperone boarded a train for their exciting weeklong journey to meet the girls from all the other states. Peggy graduated from high school a year early and was off to Memphis, Tennessee, to attend Mrs. Wylies' Office Training School for Women. From there she held many different jobs in various capacities. She eventually secured a vital position at the US Corp of Engineers. As times began to change, Peggy realized she needed more advanced training to perform her duties efficiently. She attended Christian Brothers College and the University of Tennessee, where she received certification in accounting. This additional education allowed her to help the Corp transition into the computer age.
Peggy's life was filled with many interests that kept her busy and happy. She loved fishing, shopping, and traveling. Many of her work friends became travel companions. Their travels included various notable vacation spots, such as Europe, Hawaii, and Bermuda. However, their favorite frequent vacations took them to Gulf Shores, Alabama, and Branson, Missouri. As avid golfers, they usually visited these places with golf clubs in hand. Friendships and travel were vital aspects in her full life.
Peggy lived many years in the red brick apartments at Ross and Redding. There she was the unofficial social chairman, always organizing cookouts and casual parties. The Christmas parties were well-organized and fun-filled with neighbors and friends. She and her neighbors spent many nights sitting out in the back courtyard sharing stories with each other and reminiscing about their lives. Peggy was known as a good and faithful friend. She always remembered birthdays and other special events. She loved spending countless hours on the phone enjoying the company of her many friends.
Peggy loved the Lord and was a devout Christian. The First Baptist Church of West Memphis has been her anchor for many years. She participated fully in many different activities there and loved working in the office one day a week answering the phone. She also enjoyed her time as a Pink Lady at Crittenden Memorial Hospital for over 30 years.
She left her earthly home peacefully. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in West Memphis on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 1:00 pm with services beginning at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 N Missouri Street, West Memphis, Arkansas.
In her own words, ''God bless all my friends in a very special way!'' Peggy will be greatly missed by so many!
