Gladys Marie Horton, 93, of Mountain Home was born June 2, 1928, in Newport, Arkansas, to Thomas Addison and Bessie Brown.
Gladys was a loving Mother and Grandmother and a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church. She loved reading her Bible every day and praying for her family. Her family was most important to her, other than her faith in God.
She grew up a hard worker from the time she was a small child raised picking cotton until she was married and had children of her own, then she was a factory worker. She worked for many years at the Mar-Bax shirt factory in Gassville and managed several Exxon stations with her ex-husband, Wilford Horton. She managed a Shell station and rented out the first U-Haul's in the Mountain Home area. She later worked and retired from the Baxter lab.
Gladys loved to garden and canned what she grew. She loved plants and flowers and also loved antiques, yard sales and thrift store shopping, as well as a good cup of coffee. She was a natural-born seamstress and made many, many handmade quilts over the years. She was very talented and a very hard worker but most of all she had a great love for her family.
She was blessed to have spent her last year with her grandson in South Carolina, where she enjoyed the ocean along with sights and experiences she's never seen.
Gladys is survived by three children; Lola Faye Lawrence, of Yellville, Michael "Whitey" Dewaine (Leslie) Horton of Harrison and Ricky Lynn (Cindy) Horton of Gassville. 13 grandchildren; Anthony(Tony) Lawrence, Michael Horton II, Lisa Hough, Kevin Horton, Jonathan Horton, Abigail Barnes, Andrew Horton, Dylan Horton, Sarah Dickard, Greg Horton, Rebecca Raynor, Traci Holmes, Cara Spence, 25 great-grandchildren; Blayd, Cheyanne, Keiden, Justin, Laiken, Makenzie, Gabe, Aiden, Caleb, Harper, Chase, Samuel, Michael III (Trey), William, Jacob, Jeremiah, Aver, Kali, Oriel, Dathan, Abbi, Cassi, Emmi, Ryleigh, Reagan, 5 Great-Great Grandchildren, Draven, Malachi, Lilly Mae, Ora
