Ronald "Ronnie" Garvin StaggsI am a Veteran.

of Harrison, AR

April 29, 1943 - March 20, 2022

Ronald (Ronnie or RG) Garvin Staggs entered Heaven's glory on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at his home, surrounded by family. Ron was born April 29, 1943, the first son born to Garvin and Verna Lee Staggs in Zinc, Arkansas.

He was a longtime member of Batavia Baptist Church. On October 18, 1963, Ronnie married Clara Belle Flippo and they would share the next 58 years. In 1967 Ronnie joined the US Army and served overseas in Vietnam. Upon the end of active duty, he transferred to the US Army Reserves and received his Certificate of Retirement with the rank of Sargent First Class in 2003. One of his duties in the service was as the mess sergeant and that spurred a love of cooking that he carried throughout his life.

Ronnie spent 26 years with the Arkansas Department of Transportation where he served in many different positions on several crews throughout District 9, including a stint working on the Peel Ferry. He retired in 2002.

Ronnie was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting both with black powder rifles and handguns. He also enjoyed fishing and made many great memories while restoring a pontoon boat with his in-laws which they moored at the Tucker Hollow Boat dock. Such as the time their boat motor quit, and they used their ingenuity to fashion a tarp into a makeshift sail which brought them safely to shore.

After retirement, Ron and Clara enjoyed going to yard sales and going out to eat but their plans were altered by Clara's Alzheime's diagnosis. Ronnie proudly fulfilled his vow of sickness and in health and took excellent care of Clara, allowing her to be at home until just a few weeks before her passing in July of 2021.

His family and friends will be comforted by many beautiful memories of his life and will remember his generosity and strong love for his family.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother Lonnie Ray Staggs. He is survived by his sisters, Geneva Estes and Linda Moore both of Harrison, Martha Adams of Leachville, his brothers, Jerry Staggs of Diamond City, Jerette Staggs and Wayne Staggs both of Lead Hill, Aunt Joy Quint, and his sister and brothers-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved like his own.

Pallbearers included Tommy Taylor, Sam Bray, Joe Kenneth Mayberry, Justin Choate, Donald Wray, and Josh Wray

Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth and Danny Davis and all his nieces and nephews.
