Frances "Fran" Allison

of Jonesboro, AR

August 20, 1934 - February 18, 2022

Frances J. ''Fran'' (Van Hooser) Allison, age 87, of Jonesboro, AR, finished this life on February 18, 2022. Born in Broseley, MO on August 20, 1934, to Marcus D. Van Hooser and E. Pauline (Goble) Van Hooser. While she was very young, the family moved from Missouri to Pontiac, MI. It was there she met her husband, George, while he was ''up North'', working between college terms. They married December 6, 1949. When he passed last year, they had been married for 71 years. Early in their careers and marriage, they lived in Oklahoma and Michigan. They returned to Arkansas in 1958, residing in Pocahontas, Rector, Searcy, Corning and finally, since 1978, Jonesboro. Fran and George were married at a younger age that is present custom. Though high school was interrupted by marriage and family, she finished her secondary education by correspondence courses. Fran postponed college for the sake of her children. Three of her four children were grown by the time she received her bachelor's degree in history from Arkansas State University in 1974, where she also attained a master's degree in 1975. Her first education position was at Knobel, AR, where she taught social studies and was the Guidance Counselor. Fran was at Bay, AR, from 1983 to 2008. She enjoyed reading about history, geography, psychology, and people. Fran loved music and had a beautiful soprano voice, valued all different types of music and was particularly fond of classical and vocal. During her life, she conveyed her enthusiasm and fascination for learning to family and students alike. In her position as guidance counselor, Fran positively influenced many students and aided them in making the right personal and career choices. And many through the years have expressed their appreciation to her.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, George ''G.W.'' Allison, who was a Church of Christ minister; grandson, Brett Allison; son-in-law Dave Shaver.

She is survived by four children, Steve and Dorothy Allison, Ron Allison, Paula Shaver, and Tim and Linda Allison; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gary Van Hooser and David Van Hooser.

A memorial service will be held 11 am Saturday, February 26, 2022, at the Southwest Church of Christ. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 10:30 am.

Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home of Jonesboro.
