Joyce Laverne Ray

of Little Rock, AR

March 22, 1932 - January 26, 2022

In the early morning hours of January 26, 2022, our mom, wife, nana and grandma, was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 89. She was born March 22, 1932, in Helena, OK, to Dewey S. and Ora James Humphrey. Mom worked various jobs, due to Gene being in the Air Force, but when Dad retired and moved back to Little Rock, she started working at Timex. She said her best job was that of being a mom. Mom had a passion for bowling, which she was really good at, and loved bowling with her girls, Selma, Dana and Judy. Her love of bowling was passed on to her granddaughter Karrie.

Joyce's favorite night of the week was the Friday night penny poker games with family at Aunt Katherine's and how heated they sometimes got, but she loved them. She also loved the Razorbacks, and for many years they were season ticket holders. Mom always told me how a trip to Oaklawn and the casino, to play the nickel slot machines helped keep her mind working and her memory fresh. She loved to fish, whether it was on the Little River or a trip with Larry, Garry and family to Lake Chicot.

She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, a son, Richard Llewellyn, daughter Vickie Jean Ray, and son in law John Robertson. She is survived by her husband, Gene of 65 years, son Jim (Kim) Llewellyn of Bryant, a daughter Donna Robertson, grandson and caregiver Jason Robertson of Little Rock, granddaughters Karrie (Jonathan) Neal, Courtney Llewellyn and great-grandchildren Benjamin, Lilly Kate and Oliver Neal. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce passed away due to Covid-19. Even though she was fully vaccinated, she had underlying health conditions that contributed to her death. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am." John 14:1-3
