Virgie Mae (Mattox) Poor, age 83, of Omaha, died Friday, December 10, 2021, at her home. She was born August 26, 1938, in Omaha, the daughter of Ira and Maggie (Barker) Mattox. She married the love of her life, Herbert "Bud" Poor, on July 7, 1956. Virgie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Herbert Poor; two brothers, Lee and John Mattox; and four sisters, Donna Carter, Roberta Richardson, Joyce Arnold, and Fran Huffman.
Virgie was a charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Omaha, Arkansas. She retired from Omaha Public School where she worked as an aide in the Special Education Program. The greatest joy of Virgie's life was spending time as a wife, sister, mother, and granny. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
Virgie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Carrie Poor of Ridgedale, Missouri, and Joe and Shari Poor of Branson, Missouri; her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jack Yancey, of Low Gap, Arkansas; and six grandchildren and their spouses, Laurie and Tony Beebe, Julie and Joe Irving, Jason and Tori Poor, Taylor and Nate Manus, Tanner and Emily Poor, and Jansen Poor.
Virgie is also survived by her six great-children, Isaac and Elijah Beebe, Joseph and Lillian Irving, and Archer and Ella Poor; four sisters, Evelyn McDonald, Bea Hamon, Linda Matlock, and Charlotte Barnes and her husband John; one brother, Ron Mattox and his wife Debbie; his sister-in-law, Iona Mattox; her brother-in-law, Clyde Arnold; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Open visitation was Monday, December 13, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
The funeral service was Tuesday, December 14, 2021, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home, with Johnny Atchison and John Barnes officiating.
Private burial was at Lakeland Cemetery in Omaha.
Pallbearers were Tanner and Jansen Poor, Tony Beebe, Joe Irving, Nate Manus, and Tim Green.
Honorary pallbearers were Cornerstone Medical staff and Hospice of the Hills staff.
