John William Morrow III

of Little Rock, AR

March 18, 1953 - October 1, 2021

John William Morrow III died peacefully in his home early in the morning on October 1, 2021. John, known as Johnny to some, was 68 years old. He lived in Little Rock, Arkansas with the love of his life, Tracie. He was committed to his family and loved nothing more than spending time with Tracie, his daughter Jonica, son Ryan and daughter-in-law Rachel, and his three grandchildren.

John was born to John William (''Bill'') and Louise Morrow on March 18, 1953 and was raised in Hot Springs. He grew up with siblings Kathy (Phil) Bryan and Richard (Sandy) Morrow by his side. While growing up, he worked in the family furniture business, played football on a state championship winning football team, and made many lifelong friends in the Hot Springs community. He met Tracie Cordell through mutual friends in Hot Springs. On August 8, 1980, John and Tracie exchanged vows. They shared 41 beautiful years of marriage, too many houses to count, two children, and three grandchildren together.

John was passionate about his faith, family, friends, and being an Arkansas State Trooper. John spent 35 years as a Trooper with the Arkansas State Police. This became John's life's work, and he was endlessly committed to serving his community and fellow Troopers. After a variety of assignments including Governor's Security, Narcotics, and the Criminal Investigation Division, he eventually became Commander of ASP Special Operations. In this position, he oversaw the SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams, along with a variety of other units such as air support and internet crimes against children. He worked tirelessly to upgrade equipment and training so that Troopers could better and more safely serve their community. If you wore a badge, you were John's family. He loved his fellow officers.

John loved to spend time with family, typically outside. If he wasn't on the golf course or by the water with family, he was at home. John especially loved being on the beach. Taking the annual family beach vacation with Tracie, his kids, and extended family was something that he looked forward to every year. He also loved to help. All it took was for family or a friend to mention a project or problem and John was there, ready to help for as long as it took, no matter how hard the work or how tangled the problem. He was also endlessly committed to his children. Jonica and Ryan cannot remember him missing a single school or athletic event. He was known to drive back from across the state while on assignment to attend a basketball game, and then turn around and drive back to work through the night. Recently, John's three grandsons, Colton John West (7), William Morrow (2), and Charlie Morrow (11 months), became the focus of his life, along with his beloved Doberman, Angel. His family cherished watching the joy these boys and dog brought to him just by walking into the room.

John is preceded in death by his two parents. He leaves behind his spouse, children, grandchildren, siblings, and nieces and nephews Kristin Cordell, Cari Cordell, Stacie Cordell, Brad Bryan, Todd Bryan, Brooke Morrow, Jonathan (Laura) Morrow, and Braden (Hannah) Morrow who can't wait to see him again one day. John was an incredible man of faith and set an example for his family every day with his actions. The family is comforted by knowing John is now in a better place, and that his legacy will live on in the numerous lives he impacted during his time on earth. His family takes countless lessons from watching him live a life of faith and service to his family and his community.

The Morrow family would like to say a special thank you to the team at CARTI, especially Dr. Larry Mendelsohn and his team of incredible nurses. In addition, Dr. Maria Zarzour of MD Anderson provided incredible care to John, and Sherry Woods of ASP provided invaluable support in coordinating his care. There are many others too numerous to mention, John and his family received countless acts of kindness during his battle. Please know that the family remembers and appreciates each and every one of them.
