Joan Goodchild

June 20, 1942 - September 25, 2021

Joan Goodchild, age 79 of Marshall, Arkansas departed for eternity on Saturday, September 25th, 2021 at Hospice of the Hills in Harrison, Arkansas. She was born in Greenbrier, Arkansas on June 20th, 1942 to Warren Wilson and Vera Stokes Wilson.

As a child, Joan enjoyed going to visit her grandmother and grandfather. She recalled these visits as one of the most memorable of her life. Her grandmother was a great spiritual influence for Joan. Her grandmother's beliefs in Jesus Christ and God persuaded Joan to be a believer of the Almighty. Joan moved to California at the tender age of eight. She attended school in the Los Angeles area. While attending Venice High School, she was first place winner of the Rotary Association Public School Artist Award. As a teenager, one of her hopes and dreams was to have a career as a fashion designer. Her art teachers all encouraged her to follow this desire, but like most young women at this time and at this age, love and marriage intervened. She married her high school sweetheart, George at the early age of nineteen. A marriage of over sixty years, the results; five children, eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Joan was a born artist. She used this God given talent in her later work professions as an accomplished cosmetologist instructor, studio cartoon artist and professional freelance water color artist. Through all the good and bad, all her hopes and dreams, Joan felt her most prized accomplishments in this life was the family she helped create. Joan loved them all dearly.

Survivors include her husband of sixty years, George Goodchild; four sons, George, Bruce, Paul and Bill; one beloved daughter, Elizabeth; eleven grandchildren, Ian, Olivia, Jack, Benjamin, Eric, Mary, Megan, Nathaniel, Samuel, Grace and sweet little Katy; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Layla, whom she never had the pleasure of meeting in person but thanks to technology she was able to see their faces; she also leaves behind her constant companion, nurse, assistant, bodyguard and best buddy, Minnesota, who kept vigil over her like the little angel she was meant to be.

Memorial services for Joan will be 1:00 PM Friday, October 1st, 2021 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. Jason Nipp officiating.
