Charles Herman Gilbert, 90 years and 18 days, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021 in Little Rock, AR. He was born on August 3, 1931 to James Eber and Lillian Madden Gilbert of North Little Rock, AR.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dalrene Jones Gilbert; his son, Charles ''Chuck'' Gilbert and Kat Glisich; grandchildren, Lily Gentry and Jonathan Gilbert; great granddaughter, Stella Gentry and Rebekah Gilbert. He also loved and cherished many other dear family and friends.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 51 years, Carolyn Cochran Gilbert; a son, Gary Gilbert; an infant son; and seven siblings. He was the youngest of eight, having had one sister and six brothers.

Charlie was a devout Christian man who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, and many friends. He faithfully served at Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock, AR, as an ordained deacon. He was always ready and willing to step up to meet the needs of others.

Charlie graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1949. He was quite the athlete in those days. He lettered in Track and Field and still holds the pole vault record of 9 feet and 6 inches with a solid metal pole. His record setting height was used for a qualification measure for future vaulters trying out for state competition. He was co-captain of the NLRHS Basketball Team the year they won the state championship. He played Baseball and later on when he had sons, he enjoyed playing and watching them play ball. Charlie was a family man and a wonderful father.

Charlie retired from Arkansas Power and Light (Entergy). He continued to work at various businesses throughout his retirement years. Anyone who knew Charlie knew he was not one to sit idly by for very long. Some of the part time jobs he held were at Kroger, Bale Chevrolet, Walmart, and several others. He enjoyed working with the public and made many long lasting new friendships.

Charlie proudly served his country well and with honor. At an early age, along with some of his high school buddies, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Tuley, Greenland at Tuley Air Force Base. He is a veteran of the Korean War.

Being a charter member of Triangle Sports Deer Camp he was privileged to be the one who named the camp, choosing that name because the property was in the shape of a triangle. Charlie enjoyed his hunting buddies. He loved to cook breakfast, especially bacon, for the camp members. He also helped the camp by manning the fire pit. The fellowship and tall hunting tales were told in the mess hall. The members in the camp were loved and were always very important to Charlie.

Charlie is a 32nd degree Perpetual Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Arkansas, F. & A.M. He was also a Perpetual Member of A & A Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, SJ, USA since 1975. Charlie was elected and installed as Worshipful Master at Crescent Lodge #403 in 1988. He loved his masonic brothers and his Past Master accomplishment.

Charlie will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be remembered as; Christian, Deacon, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, candy man, friend, classmate, jack-of-all-trades, whistler, athlete, and a dependable hard worker.
